  1. Maniek:

Get "Pictograms" & find out what is downstream from the relay.

Can someone share wire diagram for LS (UE/Japan) ?

That is the culprit. When the relay is that hot, it is because there is way too much current flowing through it. I'm surprised that the first relay didn't burn out before you had a chance to replace it.

For what EFI relay is used ? Who knows ?

How long has your car had this problem? Did it run OK before?

I bought car with damaged engine (see one piston http://www.ls400.waw.pl/Uszkodzonytlok/index.html), my mechanic rebuilt it (replaced piston, and complete time belt, sparks, etc..) After rebuilt engine working 'evenly' for all cylinders, but have no power :-( I started looking what can be a reason of no acceleration - no power and then I found hot EFI relay..

One more, but I think not related problem is with front dimmer lights. I can't tun them on using switch - to turn dimmer lights I must use jumper placed in main fuses box under hood - I just ordered new switch and wait for delivery (I hope it is a problem)

What kind of work have you done or have you had done recently? Where were you or your mechanic working? Could be Murphy's law of "unintended consequences" making a run at you......

Obviously, your dealer is wrong.............All is not fine, but I think it's probably a pretty straightforward electrical problem. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

I believe in that but I found NO ONE specialist who say "OK I'll investigate and try to find your car problem" :-( Normal answer is "No ECU codes, mechanically OK - car is fine" :-(

    Thank you

  2. Hi All,

I have LS 1992, with 130k mils. When I bought car I replaced: sparks, wires, distributor, distributors' cap, main lambda sensors. Done: cleared throttle, EGR valve, checked compression, exhaust analyst - all results are excellent. No any error codes stored in ECU (checked at dealer). But CAR is SLOW like turtle :-( and takes about 25% more fuel than should.

I compared it to LS of my friend and his LS is fast and perfectly accelerates. I replaced his MAF with mine - the same (his car run quickly on my MAF)

Yesterday I checked all cables under hood (fuses, relays) and I found VERY HOT "EFI relay" where rest of relays were little worm. I replaced that relay and still is the same - new one is also hot (after few miles of ride).

I need your help guys, because dealer says "no error codes = all is fine" :chairshot:

What should I check more ??

Additionally - there were ONE day (last week) when car worked perfectly (I did nothing, just start car and ride) - after few hours backed to 'bad' state'. I thinking it can be electrical problem ?

    HELP ME PLEASE !!!!

I start thinking to sell my car I don't like ride on it when accelerates to 60mph in 13s :-(

  3. Hello

Im from Poland and i own ls400.

I need an explanation of instrument cluster pictograms.

Can anyone help? Few of pictures are on on my lexus and I dont know what does it mean.

lexus.com doesnt work now and I cant get an owner manual.

    Please help.

    Thanks

I'm sorry guys for Polish, but easier and faster to me ;-))

    Witam !

  4. Just had my thermostat replaced and then changed to prestone wonder fluid instead of the regular (previously in engine). As it works out my engine running temp is slightly higher then before.

I would say it is about 43% from the bottom. Maybe an 1/8" above second bar...

Anyone else in that range? Or see different temps with fluids?

    Hi,

From my experience on camry for different world regions are different thermostats (in California full-open temp is lower than eg. in Europe). Check if your thermostat is exactly the same like old one (should be symbol defining temperature on it)

Other option - you need to vent coolant circuit (I always to following - add coolant to full on cold engine, turn engine on, set heater to full, all time control if coolant level goes down in reservoir then add coolant, wait until engine reaches operating temperature, stop engine, wait until becomes cold/warm (15-20 minutes) add coolant if necessary and that's it. You can also help to vent making pressure on rubber hoses when engine goes warm.

  5. The workshop manual for the 92's state

    Ignition coil service specs;

Primary coil resistance (Cold) 0.3–0.6 Ohms from –10 to +40°C (14–104°F)

Secondary coil resistance (Cold) 9–15 kOhms from –10 to +40°C (14–104°F)

Have you any picture/pdf how to check this ? I don't know which pins are for primary, which for secondary.

    Thanks for answer...

  6. Just an update...the problem was fixed!!! :chairshot: Drivers side coil went out  It idled smooth, but it felt like it was running on 4 cyl (it actually was! :censored: ) Since it had 2 dizzys and no trouble codes thrown, I had a bear of a time trying to diagnose it (I've grown accustomed to the 1 dizzy)

J-Roc how did you find that coil is dead ? Did you perform any test procedure ? Thank you.

  7. This is the schematic for the USA Lexus, no daytime running lights for a 93LS. Might be the same as yours.

Do you know where is located I16 INTEGRATION RELAY ? Have a photo of this element ? Today I replaced Headlight Relay and still have no lights :-(

If I put short instead of Headlight Relay (connectors 1 and 2) my dimmers are ON but remains all time :-(

If I turn light switch to dimmers I can hear 'click' of the Headlight relay.

Then I thin it should be something wrong in integration relay or in the switch :-(

Is difficult to reach integration relay - is under dash ?

    Thank you

  8. Hi,

All the time I drove with dimmer lights on. Yesterday only my markers were on when light switch was on dimmers. I find solenoid under hood and I hear it 'clicked' when I switch from markers -> dimmers. I removed solenoid and place iron short in place where solenoid operates- my light were ON ;-) Today I opened solenoid and checked for any damage or dirt. Just in case I used thin sandpaper. I mounted solenoid back and my dimmers not comes on :-( I'm at sea with this problem and need wiring diagram for front lights (LS 1992)

Maybe someone experienced in the same kind of problem ?

    Thank you for help..

  9. Hi All :-)

I'm looking for detailed description of TDLC connector for LS. I'd like to know what means each symbol and what parameter can I reach/measure using it.

For now I know TE1 and E1 terminal are used to read ECU stored codes.

AB + Tc help to reset air bag module.

I'd like know about rest of pins in TDLC.

    Thank you

  10. Hi All :-)

My engine is now rebuild. Changed one piston, all sparks, wires, coils caps, 'fingers, and timing belt + water pump.

I expected that LS will start very fast (there should be 245horsepower), faster than camry - but is not :-(

When engine reaches 3500RPM acceleration is fantastic, but lower is poor.

I checked ECU errors (no any), reseted it - still the same.

I think about two possibilities - catalyst or lambda sensors (two are changed to Bosch by previous owner)

From low engine RPMs I fill like driving car with big trailer :-( or maybe it is normal behavior of lexus LS 400 ?

On dry road (when I switch TRC off) there is no way to "burn tire" - engine has no power to do this :-(

    What can be damaged ?

    Thank you..

  11. Hi,

my LPG conversion have few options to get signal to control LPG ECU. Now LPG ECU is connected to igniter, but ECU interprets engine speed incorrectly (doubled). One (best, recommended) way is to get signal from tachometer. Do you know where can I connect (except instrument panel removal) to receive signal which reaches tachometer. Best will be TDCL, or any connector under hood...

    Thank you.

  12. Thought I'd let everybody know the resolution to my problem. Maniek was the closest. Turns out my underhood insulation was coming loose and everytime I hit full throttle, it blocked my air instake! I never thought to look there. Eyeballing it, it didn't appear it was sagging. But the service manager said that was common and in fact called it when I first dropped off my car at the dealer. Thanks for all the assistance!

Can you make a photo of damaged part ? I'm not understand all from your description.

    Thanks

  13. I have an odd problem with my 1991 LS400 (101K miles). My car used to have terrific acceleration upon full throttle, the transmission would kick in and the car would take off like a rocket.

    ...

    Hi,

Yesterday I got my car from mechanic (replaced damaged piston - there were no compression and engine knocked) and I made test drive. I was thunderstruck that car still have poor acceleration. I back to mechanic and ask him WHY ?!.

He told - all in your engine is like new (timing belt, valves adjustment, new wires, sparks) the only one thing which can be responsible to poor acceleration is... mas air flow sensor can be dirty or damaged.

Few minutes ago I did test (in Poland is 1.00 am and snow on roads :-) ) Before I start engine I disconnected MAF plug (of course check engine and TRC lights started ON), BUT ! Car start like a rocked I I'm sure I got 60mph in 8-9 seconds ! It accelerates very fast from beginning.

Next week I'll meet my colleague and borrow MAF for few miles test. Now I'm 75% sure that logy start of my LS is because MAF is dead.

Do you (someone of LOC members) know how to check MAF ? I need electrical parameters which must be meet by good MAF.

    Thank you

BTW. bssybeep - try to disconnect MAF and make test road

  14. I heard that they were available in Europe (bumper driving lights). If I were to install the driving lights, obviously with HIDs, I would have to install a relay for them. Now, to turn them on, I would love to install a FACTORY LOOKING switch on the center consol to turn them on. Any ideas anyone? I believe Hella or PIAA make HID driving lights that are retangular. (I THINK they are legal)

Take a look on mine Euro LS. It's 1992.

Currently I don't have photo of the switch, but it is located on the left with light switch (one switch more on the same lever.

Tomorrow I'll make a photo and put on my web page.

  15. YEAH.... POLISH POWER!!!

I was just in Lithuania and I did not see one LS400 in the whole country. Tons of BMW's, Mercedes and some Jags. So there is a massive amount of car trafficing in Lithuania. Is this the situation in Poland. Plan on going ot Warsaw in a few months. Good luck with your LS. Cheers from America! BTW I am 25% Polish!

Lexus was no so popular in 90'ties, but from few years you can see more lexuses and other (I'm sorry) exotic cars (big doggies, chevis, hummers etc). Most of cars in East Europe there are European cars - MB, BMW, French cars, but you can see many toyota on streets.

LS is a car with big engine (from our petrol price perspective) and this is main reason why you can't see many of them.

When you will come to Warsaw I'll be glad to meet you (contact me few days before - contact details are in my profile). What means 25% ? Left or right leg is from Poland ?? :F :D

  16. Hi,

this week my mechanic took off right cylinder head and now it is clear why my engine knocking when cold :cries: .

Stupid/idiot previous owner ? mechanic ? dropped something very hard to cylinder and cranked engine.

Piston was damaged, flatted, deformed and one of rings cracked. As you can see on photos (http://www.ls400.waw.pl/Uszkodzonytlok/photos/photo5.html) all of ring were bashed in.

Today I ordered used engine and tomorrow mechanic will do 'transplantation'. Thanks to God cylinder is not damaged (only little scratch - in my mechanic opinion not to big to replace engine block).

I'll try to make more photos and share them with you.

Photos are on my (yesterday I bought domain and page is poor now) web site. I promise to create prof LS 400 site with Polish lexus enthusiasts :-)
