  1. OK people I have been told that the michelin pilot exalto a/s is a great tire ,right up there with the bridgestone turanza.  Any opinions either way? I am kinda leaning towards these two tires not leaving out yoko avid v4s,bf traction t/a v ,and potenza g 009.

The Michelin is fairly new & not a whole pile of reports from tirerack yet. I'd personally stay clear of Bridgestones......the Yoko is a good choice, but as Army has stated, if you want a real good value & excellent all round performer, you simply can't beat the Falken Ziex ZE-512....they are made by the Japanese tire maker Sumitomo. My wife had a set on her car as well & they were awesome. Here is some more info...

Thanks lexus, For the price I have to agree the falken wins. Ialso notice that because I change my wheels for winter my summer tires after like 4-5 years are starting to crack I guess you would say. I did read that after 5 years tires maybe should replaced any thoughts on that?

  3. moved to the tire section

    you need to figure out

    price range

is it wet ,dry or mix where you live

    do you want high traction

    quiet

    long life

no tire does everything so you need to figure out the importance of each of levels you need

I thought I did that already. I am looking for advice on a 215 x 50 17 summer tire? Price range has been stated not the issue just your thought of best summer tire on a 96 es 300. Of course I want long life thats why I am asking but I dont need the longest tread life out there for I want compfort and low noise. As far as weather it is summer in wi. we do get some rain. thanks again..

  4. Thanks for the input I had no idea tirerack was bias. I understand for a so called perfect ride , noise ,and compfort I should stick with the smaller wheel. But I like the look of the 17 inch wheel and just want to see what would be the tires in my size that people feel would achieve the best results? i was on tirerack and did see the michelin x in my size for about 100.00 I want to say I know the mx4's are more, but I am not asking about best deal only best tires for summer and on a 17 inch rim. Any other suggestions would be great thanks again I know its an old subject but the summer tire is different i thought.

like $80 a piece, Falken Zeix ZE-512. Hands down the BEST high performance/general use tire IMO.

I was looking at those so I called my tire guy. $53 each installed! Helps to know people I guess.

And you are liking the tire ??

It all depends on your desires. The Falken is a sportier tire. The smoothest tire I've found is the Bridgestone Turanza LSV. I drove a Michelin MX4 at the same time and the Turanza was much quieter.

I will have to see if they come in my size!!!

  8. Well I just filed a claim against autopimp. From what I read you have up to 60 days from end of auction to file a report. As I stated I have not recieved my key and it's getting close to 45 days so I figured before it's to late I better file a complate. So we shall see what happens..oh,,, his feedback ratings are closed you cant even read them.

  9. It sounds like he knows the fraud game like so many do; I've seen these "screen shots" - they can make it look exactly like a Paypal receipt. Like you said, until you log on and see your funds there, they are not there. Sad that people fall for those e-mails that say their accounts are in jeapordy, and to click the link and enter their personal info. I did not know about the 45 day rule. One thing to learn from SK's advice, even if it means rocking the boat with the Seller, it is a good idea to throw an item in dispute before 45 days and let the Seller know you'll release it when you get good merchandise. One thing I always do as added protection is use a credit card for Paypal purchases. It was a pain to release them both when all was settled but well worth the effort.

I hope you get your money back soon.

Well I am still waiting and may be under the 45 day b.s. rule yet. So I think I should file a complaint now and if the keys ever do show up I can always retract it.

  10. I hear a ton of debate about the best tire ,but in my situation I can't get the goodyear triple treads in my size ,and the mx4's dont really have good scores on tire racks site. Most people are looking for quiet smooth ride will longevity and good in snow well I am not interested in the snow part. So could I get anyones opinion on the best summer tire for a 96 es 300 with 215 x 50 17's ? Driven around town for the most part not hugging corners at 60 miles per hour or doing 100 on straight aways. I know nothing much about rounded tires or rolling resistance so any advice will help.

  11. Sorry to hear from the other members of eBay who were ripped off by Geoff.

He called and threatened to come visit me at a Toronto meet so if anyone who was ripped off wants to meet him ,he just might show up  so you can have a few words with him. I am sure he will leave his wife and child home though.

If he had anything to add to this it should be one thing ,"here is your money and i am sorry and walk away".

Instead he likes to throw scare tactics around like they mean something to me.

Thanks for leaving the negative feedback on eBay for me Geoff ,i guess now i am a 100% official member of eBay as i now have neg feedback and have been scammed by a few people also, your just the one dumb enough one to do it to someone local to you.

    :snoooorrrtttt:

SK, I would love to come to that LEXUS meet, Not only would I take still photos, I would definetly get this one on video.

If I could be there I would. Icant beleive a person could stay on ebay very long running this type of scam. As I said before I am still waiting for my key. I was told it was sent but never got it ,and now have been sent another key. If this key doesnt work more neg. feedback will be coming his way. Also just to add I dont understand why a seller should wait to see what feedback you left to then add their feedback for you.You already paid them in a timely manner so your feedback should be over and good at that point correct? Well anyway good luck and I will see what happens. :cries:

  12. Why are you still talking? This doesn't have anything to do with you. You broke one of our rules, you got a warning about it. Get over yourself.

The success of this site is definately because of the posts of members, but not posts from angry ebay sellers threatening to beat up or kill our members or from self important people posting only to put others down.

Whats going on here has abolutely nothing to do with you, and from reading your posts I don't even think you have a grasp of what this is about (whining at SK because ebay has so many good sellers when SK never denied that nor did he ever imply that any other sellers on ebay were bad), so go away.

well sk I needed that comment a month and a half ago. I am still waiting for my key , and now I am told another is on its way. uncut reprogramable key that was purchased from auto pimp. Time will tell if it even gets here or works once it does...

  13. I have a 98 ES300 with 90k miles.  I have been calling around for prices.  Lexus dealer $800  Toyota dealer $600.  I assume I can use a toyota dealer to service an ES300, since it is basically a camry?

Do these prices sound right to replace timing belt and waterpump and coolant?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I got a TB, water pump, cam seals, crank seals, new coolant and new drive belts at my local Lexus dealer for around $720 (out the door).

I got my timing belt done for $250.00 from private garage..

  14. the bolt pattern and hub bore are identical.

So if it is made to oem specs the rim will fit fine.

the tire and offset are another question

Well its a 7.5 width rim,and tires i'm looking at are 215 x 50 17's. The offset is also what concerns me....thanks for that info though i can rest a bit easier .

  15. I am concerned about purchasing new wheels for my 96 es 300. I am purchasing an after market replica set of a lexus 17 inch wheels. My concern is that it is advertised to fit my car ""gaurenteed actually"" but I will not be puting these wheels on my car until spring so I really want to know if they will fit? They are said to be a ls430 wheel so I know the 17 inch size will work but what about the off set or the lug dimentions? thanks...

  16. Zin,

you will find a large difference when you go 15" to 17".  I go from 16" to 18" from April to Oct.  The smoothness is sacrificed for better cornering on my size change.  I don't know if it will be as an extreme from 15 to 17.  On a 96, the largest you would probably want to go is 17".

You will also find that there are major mixed reviews from members here about the Toyo TPT's.  You may find a better/quieter tire for the same price.  Also try www.tirerack.com for package deals (mounted, balanced, deliverd).

Lastly, the best brake paint to use for durability and ease of application is the G2 kit from tirerack.com.  It took me a weekend to do four wheels.  I did the front and let it dry 24 hours before doing the back.  Car is up on stands and wheels are not mounted while it dries.  Kit is all inclusive with cleaner, brush and paint.  Price is not bad.  I used two kits to do paintable surfaces on 4 rotors and 4 calipers.

I have a bunch of pictures and can walk you through it when you come time to do it.

I checked tire rack, they have some of the best tire prices and good info ,but found their wheels to be very expensive compaired to victoriatires.com or performanceplustires.com  If you buy their packages you only get a few choices of tires, unless you want to pay shipping and handling . So i saw the toyo's and thought pretty good deal. Thats why I was wondering what tires others might of choosed and why. Thanks for your help Steviej.

  17. I am in the market for wheels and tires for my 96 es 300. I found chrome wheels with toyo tpt's for $1040 to my door mounted and balanced. Just wondering if anyone feels the 17 inch wheels may effect my ride to much? Any body go even larger with tires with no problems? I was concidering the michelin mxv4's but what i saw on paper wasnt to good plus the price is much more than many others i saw. I dont know maybe whats on paper is crap but it's all many have to go on unless they have a site like this. performanceplustires.com is the site if anyone would like to comment, or recomend a different tire package offered on these wheels ? They are forte f24 chrome wheels ,victoriatires.com has same package offering 235/45/17's,but i feel that size is to big. Also i read at some point about painting brake callipers using a brush, but would like to know what paint to use? thanks

  18. whats a cig? and whats a faq?

he wrote sig, not cig. This is short for signature. That is the personal touch that each member can program to display at the bottom of each of their individual posts. SKperformance's signature has some hints and links about proper bulleting board etiquette.

faq stands for Frequently Asked Questions. Go back to the main menu of the ES forum. Look under the "pinned" threads, these are the ones listed at the top of the menu of threads. You will find a thread specific for the frequently asked questions pertaining to most ES models.

    well thankyou very much,Stevie

  19. read my sig below

I searched before I posted. I'm not a rookie. I just thought my problem was a tad bit different. Do you search theses forums attempting to be an *BLEEP* to everyone. That's what it seems like. I take my car matters seriously. Either give advice trying to help the situation or keep it to yourself.

I'm with you keven, we are not all perfect ...........

  20. Well now I have a nail and slow leak in one of the sorry Bridgestone Potenza RE92's on my ES so I'm back shopping for tires.

I was seriously considering the Continental ContiPremierContacts until I read that Horta over at CL was very dissapointed in their ride on his LS so they're off the list. I was looking at the Dunlop SP Sport A2 until steviej said he found them to have higher noise than his Bridgestones. So, I'm quite overwhelmed by this decision as what I am most concerned about it maximizing the smooth and quiet ride, handling and treadwear are secondary.

So I have it narrowed down to the following tires:

Michelin MXV4+ The old standby. Problem with these is their cost, at $123 a peice for the H rated (Almost $140 for the V's that also come on the ES). I'm sure being Michelins they are a good tire, but are they really worth at least $35 more a peice than the next comparable tires?

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...romCompare1=yes

Dunlop SP Sport 5000. I have firsthand experience with these tires and know them to be smooth and quiet but they wore fast and cupped, although they were Z rated... $80 a peice

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...romCompare1=yes

Toyo Proxes TPT. These are also somewhat expensive tires but I've heard good things and supposedly Toyo has a 45 day return policy which sounds great.

    http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebran...odel=Proxes+TPT

There are a few others that seem interesting like the Bridgestone Turanza LS-H (also expensive and I've heard some bad things about ride harshness) The Kumho Ectsa HP4 (which are incredibly cheap but I had one tire place say he would sell them too me but not mount them because of the liability) and the Falken Ziex ZE-512 which gets great reviews and is also real cheap...

    Any advice is appreciated...

I saw that the avon m550 had great reviews, and was number 1 in test against rivals!!

  21. the word "antenna" is very common beacuse every week someone come on here asking how to fix it but never even reads an FAQ !

If i thought you actually had something that had never come up atleast 3-4 times a month i would let you know.

Everyone gets so lazy and expects others to do the leg work reading and learning.

whats a cig? and whats a faq?

  22. it is never too late, especially if the oil changes were timely and regular in the past.

If is starts to weep oil, just switch back immediately.

    steviej

good to know, my lexus has 100,000 miles and i will try mobil 1 next chanmge. good point about chicago winters though, should different vescosity be used in sumers as to winters? and do most oil changing places use synthetic oils? I am handicaped and not able to do it myself.
