  3. IIRC, to remove the crossbars, you have to remove the two bars that run the length of the vehicle. The plastic corners pieces can be pulled off by hand. Just pull vertically with your bare hands. Under, you'll find Torx bit screws.
  4. I do not have this tire personally but have heard many great reviews on them both on and off road. I would opt for the 285/65-18 (33") size though.
  5. I have no other questions right now but it's good to know that the airbags are working out for you. I've been to Australia twice and I love it out there. I'd try and move to Oz but can't get myself to leave my current job and all my relatives here. Nastylexus, if you want to lower your LX, I suggest you adjust the F&R AHC sensors for a 1" drop. I wouldn't do more than that though. After lowered, try to keep the suspension setting on 3 or 4 (firm) but no less than 2.
  6. I've played with pulling the fuse and I'll tell you my experiences. Yes, the ride height locks in place at any speed but you also lose the benefits of the adaptive variable suspension (AVS). As you may know, the AVS system is tied in with sensors to the brakes and steering that "prepare" for stops and manuevers (anti-dive and anti-roll). The shock damping seems to go into some mode other than "comfort" or "sport" that is underdamped and kinda bouncy. As for damage to your suspension... I can only think of ways it will damage indirectly. If locked in low mode, the suspension has very little up travel and little shock damping.. Take a look at the bumpstop and you'll see. This reduced uptravel can lead to broken lower A-arms. Just ask the Aussie's about their A-arm woes. Most any vehicle that is lowered should have uprated springs to reduce bottoming the suspension out. If not, hitting an offramp at 50mph and hitting a bump could be disasterous. Furthermore, there is a bit of toe-out change when running in low mode. This could lead to increased tire wear and less stable handling. Of course, one could align it in low mode and fix that. Just my thoughts. B)
  7. Fraserbluff, just curious, are you running the two airbags with a T-connection or individually? I realize the shared T-connection would allow for better articulation but was wondering what benefits running them individually offered? Better on-road handling I'm guessing. Edit: I just reread your post. You REPLACED the coils with airbags. The airbags I am familiar with are made by Airlift and are installed inside the coil as a "helper." Anyway, how are those working out for you? I have had my suspension overloaded and revert to low mode as well on a few occasions. Fortunately, with a Hi-lift jack and fiddling with the suspension modes, I have been able to get it going to regular ride height. I am about to swap coils with the OE 80 series coils but have not yet done so.

  9. Fraser, I know you aren't trying to raise the ride height but the ride height will be determined by which spring you choose. You might be able to get away with cutting your springs (to increase spring rate) and adding spring spacers but I wouldn't say that is the best way to do things. As for using stock LC torsion bars, I'm not so sure you can. From what I've heard, the TD LC's use different length torsion bars. In any case, calling Christo Slee will surely be helpful. Jim, 60kg in the rear will be nothing. It's just like having another lightweight person sitting back there. I wouldn't even change the springs.
  10. Yes, you can change out the rear springs in your AHC equipped Land Cruiser. You might try using the standard (OEM) 80 series rear coils as they are a significantly stiffer (higher rate). Using OME coils might be too much if you aren't heavily loaded. With the AHC cruiser, part of the weight is suspended by the coils and part by the AHC shocks. The trick is that you have to adjust the AHC sensor(s) so that they work harmoniously with the new coils. As for your erratic height behavior, I do not know the answer. There is good information on this site but you might want to visit www.IH8MUD.com where it is more off-road oriented. There are quite a few of your fellow Aussie's there as well.

Here is the BBlanks part you are looking for. http://bblanks.com/4wd/ahc/index.htm Be advised that: 1) your alignment will be less than ideal (probably toe-out) unless you align it with the low setting with the intent to drive it in low all the time. 2) There is less "Up" suspension travel left when in low mode, maybe 2 inches? Hitting the bumpstops when on an off-ramp might not be so fun but you'll have to decide.

  14. There are two options for the clear corners. Toyota makes the part for Australia and other markets. The cost is about $150/pr. Some dealers in the US can get them. The P/N is: 81521-60360 81511-60490 The other option is aftermarket clear corners. But in both cases, know that these lenses are for Land Cruisers and not LX470's. The light bulb is different (larger). You'll have to adapt a new light harness and bulb. LC's might have their turn signals on the corner. LX's have them next to the fog light.
