  1. The LS500 exhaust system has two GPF (gasoline particulate filters). These cars seem to have a propensity for emitting white exhaust smoke in cold weather. Could this be due to the gasoline particulate filters that Lexus uses on the 3.4 twin turbo V6?
  2. Sorry, I’m referring to the old conventional one-piece spin-on type that most cars have used for decades like my 2002 LS430 uses.
  3. Why did they have to reinvent the oil filter instead of using a regular spin-on type like most other vehicles for the past 50 years?
  4. My ‘02 LS430 manual says the same thing. After 20 years of service I asked a mechanic about this. He said it’s for areas that have really bad roads in which the car gets rough service. He checkd mine and said none of them were out of spec.
  5. Water pump on my 2020 LS500 developed a small leak sometime around 35,000 miles. I noticed small drop of coolant on garage floor overnight. Lexus replaced under warranty. Probably could have gone a long time without replacement. You should never have to add coolant to a car. Keep an eye out for any leak after your car has been sitting overnight. Stuff happens. Pink residue anywhere indicates a coolant leak. Always use the correct pink coolant in a Toyota product.
  6. Well, I guess they are coming on, but they sure are dim. Is there any way to adjust the brightness?
  7. My other interior lights come on when I open a door. Why don’t my front footwell lights come on?
  8. Our 2002 LS430 has never had a fluid change. It works as it always has and I’m not about to let anyone mess with it.
  9. The 3.5 V6 twin turbo has a lot more horsepower and torque than the previous V8. I have both and can tell you that the V6 is the better performer and also gets slightly better gas mileage. Turbos generally give higher torque at lower rpms where it is needed. Forget the two cylinders and enjoy the power.
  10. Don’t blame the runflats on Lexus. Your beef is with the tire mfr. The market is moving toward runflats. They save weight, trunk space, and eliminate the danger and inconvenience of changing a tire on the side of the road. I have Bridgestone Turanza runflats on my LS500 and am happy with them. I suppose you could switch to conventional tires, buy a spare wheel and tire, jack, torque wrench, etc. It’s going to eat up a lot of trunk space. Or maybe go with an inflatable spare if you wish. The loose armrest and rattle in the console should be fixable.
  11. If you don’t own an AWD vehicle, then I would recommend it. I’m sold on AWD, even on dry pavement. We live in North AR, and I wouldn’t be without it. You might consider an ES250 AWD, but you would be going from a V6 to a 4 cylinder.
