  1. Okay...I have a 2000 GS300 with 48,000.(Yes, we almost never drive it) Here's my scenario.....When I'm stopped at a light or and I get this vibrating noise coming from the front somewhere. It sounds like it could be behind the dash or in the engine compartment. Here is where I get thrown for a loop. This only happens when the car is in DRIVE and the brake is applied and I'm stopped. If I throw it into PARK, the noise goes away immediately. If I let off the brake, it goes away. I haven't tried the other gears yet or reverse, but I am going to try those as well. Any ideas? I thought it may be a vacuum or something, but I really have no clue.
  2. Where did you get the bezel? The ones I have seen, come in black only. Did you find the paint that matches the console? Just curious, i'm getting ready to install a double-din uniy in my GS. That bezel you have looks nice and matches. Let me know where to get it. Thanks SternErn
  3. Thanks for everyone's input and help. Unfortunately, the harness does not match. So now.... :( I have an LCD display for a Pioneer GS stereo with RDS for sale. I know many of GS owners are having problems with the LCD fading. Well, I have a 2000 pioneer which had the same problem and I took a brand new 2002 GS's stereo apart and detached the LCD. (my friend took out his stereo 2 months after he bought it for an aftermarket unit)It was quite easy. The stereo I disassembled had RDS (it has 3 buttons that say traffic, data, and one other) and I put it into my stereo. The reason I didnt just take the 2002 stereo and install it was because the harness's were incompatable and did not fit. Well, I ended up having to buy the lcd direct from Pioneer. It was $98 w/ shipping. Plugged it in, and it worked like a champ. Thats the reason I have a brand new lcd that I want to sell. Let me know if someone wants to buy it. Any reasonable offer will due. :) I can also tell you how to do it. It's easy.

  5. I can tell you what they use for other Xenon or high intensity bulbs. Its "denatured" alcohol. I thinks thats how you spell it. The regular rubbing alcohol is not as pure. The denatured stuff is sold at many electronics/electrical repair or parts stores. This is what I used on 10K xenons and 20k halogens for motion picture lighting. Good luck, hope this helps.
  6. Okay...Its been like 6 months since I last posted, so excuse me if I feel like a noobers! I have the stock Lexus oem Pioneer stereo and changer in my 2000 GS. My display was starting to go bad and I started looking for a cheap oem replacement. Well, my buddy's younger brother had his 2003 GS430 totalled about a week ago. He had put in an aftermarket head unit, but was hanging onto the oem one in case he decided to sell his car and put back the oem unit. Well, he doesnt have that problem and he pretty much traded me for some computer repair services for his head unit. My question is that his head unit has the three buttons which arent on mine. Mine has the ASL listening button. His has 3 buttons, that are below the round tune knob, labeled RDS, TRAF, & TYPE. First off, what are they? Second, and most important, will that head unit work in my car. They are both made by Pioneer. Any help would be appreciated, id hate to take apart my center console to find out it doesnt work. Thanks again. __________________ ALL STOCK BABY!!!!
  7. That would be so great!!!! Thanks a bunch. You can email me at sternern@yahoo.com Thanks again! :)
  8. I noticed on the 2003 and newer GS's, The instrument cluster bezel has satin silver rings around the tach, speedo, and gas/temp gauge. I love the look of it and was wondering if anyone might know who might sell this. These are directly on the leather instrument cluster cover. Thanks for any ideas.

  10. ****ANY PROMT INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED**** I would like to know if its possible to add an OEM e-shift to my 2000 GS300? I was thinking that it would be the wheel, maybe a different wiring harness, and a computer adjustment. The guy who offered the steering wheel to me is leaving town in about 12 hours. So any quick input is appreciated! Thanks again.
  11. I know an awesone shop in the Monrovia area of so cal(right off of Myrtle on the 210)...near Pasadena if youre not familiar with the area. Send me an e mail and I will give you the number. This guy wont rip you off and works on only Lexus. He was a master tech for Lexus and decided to open a shop of his own. I drive from Vegas to have this guy work on my GS. He's good. I wont let anyone else touch my GS. Let me know if you need the info.
  12. I have two working remotes for my 2000 GS. On one, the actual metal key part was damaged. Is there somewhere just to buy the metal insert so I can have a new key cut?...Im trying to avoid buying a whole new remote.
  13. I have a 2000 GS300 with the standard halogen lights. I picked up a HID ballast and light set from a 2002 GS. Are these just plug and play or is there some mod involved. I would appreciate any help on this subject. Thanks in advance!
  14. Lexus service is uncomparable to others. They take care of almost everything. I've even had things on my car(bent rim, etc.) replaced after the warranty expired. I posted something like this earlier, but make friends with a specific service advisor, and maybe even buy him a gift. Sounds crazy, but that $50 gift will go a long ways after your warranty runs out. I gave my service guy a few good tickets to the Dodger game. It cost me $75 but he took his wife and 2 kids. the next time I was in for service, he couldn't stop thanking me and that's when he fixed a load of things for free. Trust me, it usually works. I also looked at the 5 series BMW when I was looking for a car, but all my friends told me that only BMW should service the car and they will ream you everytime you go in. Spark plugs alone for the 5 series, are $24 each! Plus the ride the Lexus will give you is awesome. With the Lexus previously owned vehicles, you might want to consider a used off lease 430. Lexus wont sell a used car that doesnt look and ride brand new. Good luck, and stay away from the beamer.
  15. You could just steal them from another car!!!! :P J/k Look online, you'll find them. The dealer will bend you over if you buy from them. Take some KY if you decide to go that route though. :whistles:
  16. The Kumo's and Falken's drive nice and are pretty quiet. They are pretty inexpensive as well. Although you wont get the same deal, I had mine mounted and balanced for $400. Make sure you get the car aligned after you get the new tires. If your alignment is off badly, you could ruin those new tires within 50 miles. Find a good tire shop to get you tires, and then drive it over directly to the Lexus dealer for an alignment. From what I hear, the alignment should be done at least 1 time a year. Its also possible that your rim is bent and that they are out of balance. When getting the new tires, make sure they have a high speed balance machine. On my rims, I got Falken ZIEX- ZE512 235/45Z-R17's. They ride nice but not as quiet as the stock brand. Your tread design and profile are what determines your noise and comfort level. I posted that from a previous thread, look at tirerack.com. They have some good info even if you dont buy from them. I would recommend to keep the tire size the same. You might consider going to a 50 series tire if the road noise is bothering you. Good luck.

  18. OIL CHANGES, OIL CHANGES, OIL CHANGES!!! Always change your oil between 3-5000 miles. This is the blood of your car, and will pay off in the end. I also recommend to always do the scheduled maintainence and never take it to anyone but the dealer or an authorized Lexus repair shop. It will cost a little more, but it'll be worth it in the end. Good luck with your new Lexus and welcome to the club!
  19. Toyota(a.k.a. Lexus) is always real good about fixing the problem at hand, especially if its under warranty. My suggestion would be to take it to a dealer and tell them to fix it. I usually try to be really nice to the service advisor, and try to kiss his butt a little. You also have to be stern about the problem and tell them it's unacceptable for it to go on. The dealer is usually happy to fix it because it costs them nothing if its under warranty. My GS is out of warranty and they have fixed several things after it ran out. They recently replaced a bent rim at no charge. I have 60,000 miles on my car. I always try to throw in that I am looking to buy one of their new cars. Maybe a GX would be good bait. Now, when I go in, they work with me and take care of a lot of stuff for free. Good Luck.
  20. I have a 2000 GS300 and was wondering how hard it is to put the E shift steering wheel on mine. Will it work w/o major mods? Does it just plug in? Let me know. Thanks
  21. I want to change all the pads on my GS300. I have heard from several people(including a few mechanics) that it's not always the best idea to turn the rotors when changing pads. Im a beleiver that you should, but their arguments were interesting and valid as well. What do you guys think? Thanks for the input. Stern
  22. Try to get it on Ebay...You can usually do a Buy It Now for the 169. Thats how I got it. They have a few on their site right now for that price. That's the way to go. Good luck, e mail me if you have any questions. Ernie
  23. Well, thats answers a lot of my questions...One last one...Is it worth buying the head unit for $250 anyways?
  24. does any know if the navigation head unit for the 99 GS400 will fit the 2000 Gs300? does it integrate easily? Please let me know, I found a kick !Removed! deal. What also is part of the nav system....cd rom, any other parts to the unit itself? Thanks for the help.
  25. I would love to have them. I am in Vegas, but Id be glad to send you $10 or whatever for shipping. Let me know. My email is sternern@yahoo.com. Thanks. Ernie
