Little tidbit about the 5-Series Bimmer that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me AGAINST owning one... A good friend of mine special ordered his 5-Series back in October because it was some obscure color and a few other things that were difficult to find walking on the lot. After waiting two months for it to arrive, he falls in love with the car when it finally arrives in December. Looks good and all is happy in the world. Forward to early February (he had the car about 7 weeks with about 1800 miles on it. He dropped me off at the front door of a local hangout for a bite to eat while he parked the car. After almost 15 minutes passed without him showing, I went to search the parking lot. Where is he sitting?? He's sitting in his beautiful, disabled 40-some thousand dollar car with the airbags deployed, freaking out on some guy at BMW of America. He didn't hit anything and came to find out it was some odd short in certain 5-Series. The part was on back order from Germany for six weeks while his car sat, disassembled at Braman BMW of Miami. Aftet dropping $40 grand, what did they give him for 6 weeks as a loaner, a freakin Cavalier. The final settlement after hours of yelling on the phone and threatening a law suit (and the lovely Cavalier sedan) was that they made one month's car payment for him. Forget Bimmer. Definitely used to have the quality but seems in the past 5 years or so they have forgone quality for the almighty dollar (i.e. over charge, under service, cut corners on quality materials). Just my first- (and last-) hand experience...

I bought my '01 GS3 about 6 weeks ago and could not be happier with it. I never thought I would have an affair with a car like I did my Acura Legend coupe but so far the Lexus is winning. Here's my question, the stereo code did NOT come in the car's glovebox. How can I get the code? Can my service guy at my local dealer get it for me?

Per Countyline Lexus here in Hollywood, FL the factory warranty is 4/48 I bought my '01 GS300 6 weeks ago. I realized after buying it from a non-Lexus dealer that one of the rear shocks was bottoming-out. When I took it into the dealer it had 48,200 miles on it. I was prepared to pay to have the shocks replaced since it was actually outside the warranty. Without even asking, my service guy put everything through under the warranty and I didn't have to pay a penny. So, if you only have 42k on yours, you should get it into the dealer, explain the problem and let them know that you want to get it solved before the car goes out of warranty. If they give you any flack that because it was originally sold in say February 2001, that it's beyond the 4 year mark, tell them you want to see in writing what determines the starting point of the 4 years. If they don't want to give in at first, usually if you lean on them a little, they will give in. If not, that's why there's the national customer service line. BTW...this happened a couple years ago on my Acura. When I told the the dealer the tranny was acting funny, they did a complete service on it under warranty. Hope this helps...

I checked out HIDplanet and found much of what I need. However, who here has done the actual conversion? Did you use HIDplanet's conversion kit or someone else's? How difficult was it? How long did it take you? Just trying to get as much info from actual people who have done it before I begin the process. Thanks for the help.

It's an '01 GS3.

About half the time when I go to start my car (usually when the engine is cold), when I put my key in the ignition, as the wheel is moving into position, I hear 1,2 or 3 beeps. Not sure what this is and couldn't find anything in the owner's manual. Anyone know what I'm talking about or know what the beep indicates? Thanks-

What year did Lexus begin to tint the GS300 headlamp lenses with the green tinge? Was it the same year for both HID and non-HID systems? Thanks for the help!

Hi all. Just got rid of my '98 SC300 for an '01 GS300. Love the car! A couple question regarding HIDs... I saw a set of HIDs from an '02 GS430 for sale on eBay. Currently my GS300 has non-HIDs. Are the HIDs from the GS430 basically plug-n-play or are there ballasts that must be installed in addition to the headlamp unit? Is the wiring and wiring harnesses for the non-HIDs compatible with HIDs? Any help is greatly appreciated! Happy driving...
