You have to press on the brake pedal. If you are doing that, Then the switch that controls that function isn't working. Just a thought.
Hi, I got it fixed. The car was used as a dog house, and the windows were left rolled down all winter, it was filled with water.
The problem turned out to be the dog hair and moisture rusted the mechanism, and even pushing the saftey button would not release it, so I took apart the console and oilded the soilnoid, now it works, this car can light up the tires....whoo-hoo, I have $250 worth of parts and some labor in it!
