  1. in-operative dvd--lexus ls 430--2002

    dvd:chairshot:

my 2002 ls 430 dvd player isn't working--screen says; unable to read dvd--I carefully removed cd and cleaned--this didn't help--took to lexus dealer who wanted $5100.00 for a new dvd--this seemed incredibly high to me--help--don't want to spend this enormous amount of money--does anyone know if I can pick up another dvd from a wrecked lexus

//--will all model lexus be compatible with my LS 430??need help--ty

The only navigation computer that will work is the 86841-33060. Lots of older Toyotas and Lexus use this computer.

ask the dealer the price for the refubished computer price usually around 1500.00. as long as yours just has the laser not working they will sell you a refurbihed unit exchange. the $5,000 price is if your computer was destroyed by accident or water damage and your insurance would cover a new one. i have one from a salvaged car for a lot less than the dealer refurbished price. . email me at pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for particulars.

  2. I have a 05 RX330. I recently purchased the upgrade DVD for the navigation. I have looked all over the car (under pass seat, under compartments in back hatch area, etc). I cannot find the DVD unit for the NAV. I am probably missing an obvious place...any help, please? Also, my understanding of the procedure to replace the disc is to:

    1. turn on car

    2. Press "I agree"

    3. eject the old disk

    4.Insert new disc

    5. Let upgrade occur automatically with new disc.

Is this correct? Are there any pitfalls or info I need to know?

I tried to find this info using the search function in past forums, but could not find it.

    Thanks!

    Steve

its in the jack compartment in the right quarterpanel.

  3. I've done several searches and couldn't find the answer I'm looking for.

I have developed a crackling sound from my left front speaker and tweeter. It is very pronounce when I max out the volume. It is almost unnoticeable at lower volumes.

When I was getting my Sirius radio installed, the technician noticed the same thing. He was thinking the amp was going bad.

I was wondering if the HU or amp controls the front speakers. Also, I have the navigation system so do I have a Pioneer or Nakamichi amp?

  4. Hi, so I assume that the Mark Levinson system from a 2004 LS with Nav is unable to play audio DVDs, with software hacks or otherwise? can someone clarify this for me? THanks

the dvd audio players debuted in 2006 on the is350 and gs430 450h. no lexus up through 2005 can play them. i am working on installing the mechanism from the 2006 dvd changers in previous indash changers. lf the conversion works i will let you know. your 2004 ls430 screen has the video and audio inputs to support the conversion so its just a matter of getting the mechsnisms to convert seemleessly.

  5. Hello,

i have a 1995 es300 and i was driving and listening to a cd and all of a sudden the sound went out. When you turn it up you can hear the music coming out low, like the amp went out. i'm not sure where the amp is. Any help would be appreciated. I only saw two fuses, one under the driver dash and one under the hood.

i did notice that a passager was driinking some water and the cup waste on the floor on the passenger side. i'm not sure if that had something to do with it or not.

yes unfortunetaly the amp is under the passenger seat and it is not fixable when shortcircuited by a water spill. no other amp will work except a factory 92 to 96 es300 amp. its an 8 channel amp so hard to match one with aftermarket. they are usually around 100.00 for a used working one. expensive passenger.

  6. You just helped me with my installation I appreciate that but now I am mad I paid so much for this thing. On carstereohelp it had a thing that said "Add MP3, XM, IPod", I clicked it first. I guess this is where car stereo help says I should have bought my ipod car adapter, soooo much cheeper my foot is in my mouth.

I wish I had found carstereohelp / carstereoremoval first.

Once I got to the actual car stereo removal option there was not an option for my car there was instructions for the gs300 and the gs 400 but not the gs 350

Oh well I will find my own way through this because I am not going to circuit city. Nobody out there has any tips?

I have tips for you if you havnt bought this Sound Link, If you want it dont just buy it check out a site like carstereohelp that has links and nothing to gain first, dont make my mistake

one problem with the answer is that the gs350 is only a 2007 model not 2005 like in original question. removal is the same as is350 navigation unit . so search for is350 navigation removal on this club and the myis club site.

  7. What would I have to do to wire up an OEM CD changer? I have a car that i can take all the parts out of. I have a 93 the parts car is a 90

i am glad you followed my advice and got a 90 to 92 nak headunit. if your car had no changer when ordered from factory it was not prewired. for the cd changer cable which is part of the main wiring harness so the one in the parts car is of no use. but since you have a cd button nak radio now a custom made cd changer cable will solve the problem. there is a 14 pin plug into the cd button radio and the 6 and 10 pin connctors to connect to oem changer in the trunk. the oem 93 94 changer is the best one. the 90 to 92 changers are not fixable anymore due to parts unavailable. the 93 94 changer mechanism is still used today in 7 series bmw so parts more available. the custom made cable is ground shielded otherwise you will get interfrence. i sell them for 75.00 and the parts to make one properly will cost more than that.

  8. Can someone please tell the most current version of the Lexus DVD navigation system. I would like to buy one of the Lexus discs off Ebay but I don't know which version to get. I have a 2004 ES 330. I am not sure if this matters, but I don't know if the system has ever been updated, but DVD discs inserts in the dash behind the Nav screen.

    Thanks,

    FA

YOU NEED A 4TH GENERATION UPDATE. on ebay the best way to find it is in the pictures the 6.1 4th has u21 designation at 2 oclock on the disc.the part number is 86871-33046. it lists for 1000.00 as that part number but the lexus dealers sell them for 300.00 with a pt parts dept number.

there are numerous other 6.1 discs on ebay all of them wont work on your 4th generation es330 . do not buy the 2nd 3rd 6.1 u01 or the lexus toyota 5th genration u31for denso made gps computers. or the toyota avalon 5th gen 6.1 u50 for eisen computer or the prius 5th gen 6.1 u41 for eisen computer. none of those 6.1 discs will work.

ALSO BEWARE OF EBAY SELLERS THAT LIST 4TH GENRATION COMPATIBLITY BUT PICTURE A U31 DISC INSTEAD OF U21. ALSO BEWARE OF EBAY SELLERS WITH CHEAP PRICE FOR U21 79.99 WITH PICTURE OF ORIGINAL DISC. YOU WILL GET A COPY NOT AN ORIGINAL FOR THAT PRICE

  9. Hmm... my searching might have answered my own question

    http://www.gnetcanada.com/navvideo-models-..._rgb_toylex.asp

    talks about a NTSC input..

yes it is ntsc compatible output of usa but the screen is still tapped in the trunk at the 10 pin video connector of external dvd map reader in the 2 pice lexus navigation systems(except es330 1 piece) so that eliminates its use in your 4th genration 2005 1 piece toyota type es330 headunit............................................................................ the 2007 es350 now is a 5th generation 2 piece and no longer uses a toyota navigation 1 peice unit like yours. . the 2007 es350 connection between screen and nav map reader unit is now digital so all these aftermarket 10 pin line tapping units from soundlinq ,vaitech ,navtool lextasy etc will no longer work. all these adapters for 2nd thru 4th genration dont work that well anyway................................................................................... why they dont just plug into the 6 pin blue video port on the back of every lexus nav screen is beyond my comprehension. why these companies want to put interferece on the nav video line doesnt make sense when every screen has a video input port. even the 2007 screens still have a 6 pin blue video input port even though the map reader to screen connection is now a digital 2 pin connector which was invented by sony. i think the screens were all getting burnt by those aftermaket gnet etc adapters as they are hooked to power which puts too much curerent to screen. so lexus had to make impossible to tap the rgb 10 pin connector anymore but left the 6 pin vidio input port.

post-1629-1176263459_thumb.jpgheres a lexus 6 disc changer plugged into a gs430 2 piece navigation system. it doesnt need any aftermarket adapters and it plugs into the 6 pin video port for movie picture to screen and to the 12 pin cd changer for factory sound not fm modulated like aftermarket units. plus it has touchscreen integrated controls not some tiny losable battery drained remote. click on picture to enlarge it.

  10. Hmm... my searching might have answered my own question

    http://www.gnetcanada.com/navvideo-models-..._rgb_toylex.asp

    talks about a NTSC input..

first of all you have a 1 piece unit and that only works on 2 piece navigation units with seperate computer. also the compatiblity chart is wrong as to the years it fits. they didnt even have nav in most years and models mentioned. also that unit splices into the 10 pin rgb wires to the 2 picee systems computer which causes screen problems and does nothing about putting in the sound to the factory amp. you would have to get fm modulator.

  11. Have an '05 ES 330 and am curious as to the ability to watch DVDs on the navigation screen.

I know in the center console where my arm rest there is a multi-disk CD Changer.

By opening the Nav screen, two slots are available - one for the map data, the other a DVD-ROM or perhaps just CD.

Everywhere I place a DVD to watch it does not work. I've had the vehicle in park and the parking brake on when I've tried.

Any suggestions? Is it possible the two slots are CD only and the MAP DATA doesn't read movie DVDs, just map data.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Jeff

sorry no dvd player in the 05 es330. the map reader behind the flip down screen only plays dvd map. the consle 6 disc just a cd player. the lx470 has a 6 disc dvd cd changer in its console and the gx a single cd dvd player . the 07 es350 has a rear seat dvd player but sincew 2005 its illegal to play dvd movies on the front screen.

  12. Not worth the money to update for the hard drive based systems. They've stopped updating the hard drives. The most current data for the hard drive system is July 2004.

the 2004 map has 100% more data than the original 2000 wheras the 2006 map has only about 10% more new info than the 2004 map. when the 2000 lexus ls and gs had navigation not one toyota model did and only a few bmw acura mercedes had them . the amount of map data aDDED between 2000 and 2004 was huge. ALSO ALL THE NEW NAVIAGTION SYSTEMS IN JAPAN ARE GOING BACK TO DISC DRIVE and away from dvd MAPS so someday the table may be turned and disc drive update will be easier to get than the by then antique dvd maps.

  13. I have a 2000 LS400 Platinum Edition. How do I find out what "Gen" my navigation system is? Trying to update it without going through the dealership. I called the 1-800 Lexus line and they advised me to take it to the dealership.

    Thanks for the help.

you have the first genration navigation system . it has a disc drive. the update goes for around 300.00 last time i checked. if the dealer has to install it for you the hourly charge would apply in addition. the disc drive has to be updated by denso so they are usually ordered FROM DENSO BY A DEALER AND THEN CORE DISC DRIVE SENT BACK TO DENSO. THEY ARE 900.00 WITHOUT EXCAHNGE.

  14. I have a 2004 Lexus ES-330 with the nav system. I was shopping on EBAY for a 5.1 NAV DVD for an update. I currently have the 4.1 version. My question is will this disk below work or is it for another Toyoto NAV system. Thanks in advance for helping.

Toyota Navigation System DVD, Version 5.1 map for North America. The numbers on the disc are as follows:

    86271-53020

    464210-0628

    Data Ver. 05.1

your es330 takes a generation 4 disc . the latest is 86271-33046 6.1. the one listed above is the 5th generation disc for the es350 . there are also generation 2/3 6.1 discs. so there are 3 incompaTIBLE GROUPS OF DISCS ALL SAYING 6.1 THE LATEST MAP VERSION. also lexus parts dept. uses the accesory part numbers starting with PT NUMBERING SYSTEM not the 10 digit part number on the disc. thats to keep you totally confused.

  15. I haven't seen the DICE unit but I have the Vaistech unit in my LS430. The system comes up as an MD changer (you can set the emulation for different systems, I believe the latest ICE systems support CD-Text), and the playlists come up as discs. You can change to MD text mode where you can see the name of the playlist and the song on the screen, playlists can be changed like CDs/MDs and you can skip across the song list.

The DICE units supposedly let you access your entire library; the Vaistechs only let you do playlists from the touch screen. You can also put it into a 'manual' mode where the controls on the ipod become active; but then you lose the ability to see the titles on the screen (you can still skip up and down however). There are some screenshots on the vaistech website.

I love it...I'm this close to buying an iPod so I can just leave it in the car all the time.

You can bluetooth the car with a variety of aftermarket kits; I used a Parrot 3200LS (you can see the doc in my post in this forum).

    Good luck!

I recently bought a 05 ES330 with Nav (without ML). Love the car but miss MP3 capability and ML sound! I read several threads going over the aftermarket adaptors (VAIS, Denison DICE) that can be installed to connect an IPOD. Can the IPOD be controlled by the NAV touch screen? I installed a Pioneer AVIC-D2 in my LX450 a few years ago and I can access the folders and the songs by touching the NAV screen....sweet! Can you do the same with either the VAISTECH or the DICE adaptor? Specifically, can you scan through different playlists and choose songs by touch screen? If the above two adaptors cannot do this then is there any other adaptor that allows this functionallity? Alternatively, is there an aftermarket or OEM CD changer that has the MP3 capability?

Is there a way to upgrade to the "ML sound" quality? Has anyone tried it....different amp, additional speaker? I am reasonally good with auto electronics and am willing to try to improve the sound quality.

Is there an easy way to find out if the car is blue tooth capable?

One last question...read here about the 02-05 transmission hesitation issue. What is it?

    Thanks for help.

    Options.

  16. I have the same issue..."no disk detected" on my 2002. Spoke with Toyota today and they are looking into it. I got a 2K quote. I hate to say it but it reminds me of why I stopped even considering American cars. Reeks of planned obsolence. Put something in a car that breaks 3 -4 years later that costs thousands to fix. Please Toyota/Lexus...fix this problem

if a good disk is in there then no disk detected means the lasers not functining so the computer thinks there is no disk. this has been a problem for the 2nd generation computers with part numbers 2001 model 86841-50010 and 2002 86841-47020. so far the 3rd generation computers not failing which are part number 86841-33060.................................................................................................in addition to this information i will mention that all all the 2/3 computers use the same update discs. the 6.1 is just released and is 86271-33035 and has a u01 at 2 oclock on the disc label. the 4th genration use another set of update maps and the 5th generation another different set. so there are now 3 diferent and incompatible 6.1 2007 map discs. i only mention this in this discussion because if a newer computer has been installed in your vehicle then the update disc the dealer sells you by vin number may be the incorrect disc.

  17. Has anyone found the "hack" for the v6 DVD (like the one in v5 on the Volume screen) which allows you to override the system so you can enter destinations while the car is in motion?

The hidden menu has been eliminated.

you make a copy from your own original v5 and v6 dvd for your own use. using dual layer burner copy v5 firmware at beginning then v6 map data . so overide will still be there but with 2006 data. i do not have any such copies for sale. it is against toyota coyright to sell copies. this is only recomended for your own use from original dvd map discs that came with the vehicle or purchased from a toyota dealer. also it is not recomended the driver use this modification while vehicle moving. only the passenger can use it safely. i hope there were enough warings in this post.

Ive tried to backup my dvd but i cannot get my 03 es to read the disk. I used a memorex dvd+r dl disk...what dvd media are u using. I'd like to know b4 i make another 5 dollar coaster. Thanks!

most successful copies were made on verbatim dl media/ 2.4 x. lots of coasters on memorex. also the setting has to be book type not setting the for movie copies.

  18. first of all i am an oem lexus audio video expert not aftermarket but i will give a few facts. all lexus electronic units have an avc lan system that will only communicate with lexus oem equipment. i assume the factory amp wont turn on because the headunit is aftermarket. so the connection to the factory speakers would have to be at the amp behind the rear seat to the speaker output connector thereby by passing the amp. second the factroy bezel you bought on ebay is for oem factory 1 piece navigation system that installs perfectly in it with no mods. so the bezel isnt aftermarket like all the other bezels on ebay.

  19. When installing a stereo there are two hot connections. One for constant power; This is the black/white coming from the factory harness that connects to the yellow of the headunit. The other becomes hot when the key is turned on connects to the red of the headset. I did something and lost power to the black/white in the factory harness. I checked all fuses and they looked fine. Where is this fused?

    Thanks...Dave

lexus black and white wire is always the ground wire. the 12 volt b+ is always blue with a yellow stripe. that connects to aftermarket yellow. the other hot wire is always a smaller solid gray wire which is lexus accesory circuit and it connects to aftermarket red wire so of course hooking the lexus ground to ground to yellow 12 volt pos would blow the fuses its fused at fuse box in kick panel and also in engine compartrment. .

  20. someone please let me know whats going on i took my subwoofer out and it says pioneer and my amplifier says pioneer but my door speakers and headunit says nakamichi whats going on

can someone tell me what i need to do because i want to change my amplifier .. im gettin a new four channel amp and a new headunit and it would help to kno wat colors is the output and imput into the amp is.. also what color is what speaker?

    thanks guys

    95 ls400

for some reason the 95 ls400 nakamichi and pioneer parts were somehwat interchangeable. ther headunit cd changer and 4 ohm door speakers could be replaced when broken by either brand. the subwoofer was 2 ohms pioneer and 6 ohms nakamichi so the amps had to stay the same as the sub. so you have a pioneer system with nakamichi parts replacing the headunit and the door speakers and maybe the cd changer if there is dac hooked on the back of the changer. i hope your getting at least a 2000.00 aftermarket system. anything less is going to sound worse than the 5000.00 list price system your replacing. cheap systems might sound louder but not as much clarity. also the japan made nakanichi head unit will be playing well into the next several decades thats why the prevoius opewner choose it over the pioneer head which only last 10 years(only!) . the aftermarket will be lucky to be working in 2 years time. maybe just adding some huge subs and aftermarket sub amp would do the trick.

  21. Really appreciate the information. So if I understand correctly, I connect the six and ten adapters to the vehicle. I connect the 20 pin adapter to the 01+ radio. Then it is just a matter of conecting the right wires together?

Also, do you know where can I get a wiring diagram? Do the 01+ radios have the lcd problem? Thanks in advance.

toyota has website of technical information .it cost 10/00 a day 50.00 a month 360.00 a year.

  22. Has anyone upgraded their 98-00 GS premium radio to the 01+ radio with RDS? I did a search and understand that the wiring harnesses are different. If the wires are spliced together will the system work or is there more involved?

Also, does the 01+ display CD information? If so, would I presume I would need to upgrade the CD changer.

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

yes its just splicing the correct wires together. the 2001 headunit will read out ipod adapter , xm and serius radio the cd changer didnt change from so no problem with that. the problem is getting an accurate pin out for the 98 gs 10 and 6 pin radio connectors as it like no other lexus radio connctor. . in 2001 they pretty well standarized the radio 20 pin connector so all lexus pretty much the same. there are 2 20 pin connctors on ebay. one is for digital amps and one for analog toyota amps. get the one that is 12.99 from pagan stereo . it has right wiring for digital amps. not the one that is below 10.00 on ebay and is called best kit. its analog amp. also you will need the standard 6 and 10 speaker adapters for toyota. 5 to 10.00 metra 70-1761. . but you have to change all; the wires for 98 gs. i use a jewlers screwdriver to unlock the pins. so once that is done the radio connctors will plug into the 6 and 10 pin adapter and the other end of jumper harness with the 20 pin plug into the 2001 radio. i have always meant to make them up in quantity but never got around to it. the connector parts would be around 20.00 and i was going to charge 40.00 for them. but it would only woork on 98 to 2000 pioneer gs headunit p1708. it wouldnt work on nakamichi which has all diffewrent connctors.

  23. I have a 2007 RX 400h with the Levinson sound system. The system identifies the changer as a "DVD Changer," but it appears to only play CDs. Optimally, I would like to use the "DVD Changer" to play MP3s burned to DVDs (as I can get a lot more of them on the DVD). Is there any way to make that work? Nero allows me to burn a "DVD Jukebox" with the MP3s, but the DVD Changer does not appear to recognize the format. Thanks in advance for any insight / assistance that anyone can provide.

    [/quot

yes the indash cd dvd changer plays dvds in 7.1 surround sound. to get it to work on the front screen you have to put rx in park and put on the emergency brake. then the screen will play dvd movies or audio. gov regs dont allow the screen to work while driving as the gyro in the nav units locks out the screen. however the dvd sound should work while driving so you may need to ask your salesman to show you how to work it.

  24. Has anyone found the "hack" for the v6 DVD (like the one in v5 on the Volume screen) which allows you to override the system so you can enter destinations while the car is in motion?

The hidden menu has been eliminated.

  25. can someone please tell me it is possible? i saw this 98 navigation with ac/heat controls all together on ebay and was wondering if it was possible to install this in my 95 ls400. are the plugs in the back the same ? i have pics that compare them both.. it seems like the only problem i would have is the size .. if thats the case can i just use the vent from the 98 ls400 also because it doesnt come with the time and temp ?

if i get this and a navi brain will i be able to get it to work?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS-LS400...VQQcmdZViewItem

    1995_interior_front.jpg

thats the picture of the 95 dash board

    1998_interior_front_dsdie.jpg

that is the picture of the non navigation option of the 98 ls.. size seems the same as the 95

some one pleasee let me know i really want this badly..

yes its possible as the unit will fit right into your dash. but it is the hardest of all lexus retrtofits as your audio wiring is not only analog but the cd changer is also pbus not mbus llike every other lexus cd changer so the cd changer has to be swapped as well as the analog amplifier to digital amplifier. i have the headunit, computer with hardrive map, gps antenna and wiring harness but it is not a plug in and play install. the speakar output wires from analog amp would have to be adaprted to the new digital pioneer amp. if your cueent system isa nakamichi that makes more problems as far as the wiring goes as that amp is in the trunk and makes adating the speaker outputs even harder.
