  1. Apologies you can use any dex 3 fluid.... lets say you have an emergency and fluid is 0 in the reservoir for whatsoever reason any ATF fluid will/should work without causing damage, i found one basic sheet which shows which oil is recommended by the manufacturer for which car make power_steering_fluid_applications.pdf
  2. Hi everyone, its been a long time since i posted anything here Recently my car started giving noise when i steer everytime, the sound was minimal in the beginning well it was my fault i kept on driving it, the sound keep on growing and the steering got harder and harder with noise ofcourse What i did the first thing is to add up some lubricant usually DOT3 Dex 3 but unfortunately at the gas station this guy had only the brake fluid which was DOT 4 anyway i poured DOT 4, the reservoir for power steering was empty as expected and the oil inside was as filthy as it can be may be it was not changed even once since 1998... anyway I topped up the oil and drove There was another observation when the car got heated up well not heated up lets say when the engine is warm after a cold start in the morning the noise from the steering while turning was minimal but yes the steering became hard... The above whole situation i carried it for i think 4 days... Now the fix I went to a garage and i told him that noise is coming from the steering wheel and the steering itself is hard now, the mechanic told ok let me check and then with a flash light he went beneath the car, after sometime he told me that your pump is leaking tie rod ends are leaking and the list goes on..... I told him one thing, please do as i say Remove the return pipe from the oil reservoir and drain the whole steering fluid and thats it. So he proceeded removed the air filter assembly removed the return pipe, please make sure you have a large polythin or a bag in which you can store the oil otherwise it will be a mess since the moment you will remove the pipe the oil will come out with force.. now when the oil stops coming out start your car and turn the wheels end to end, now during this time and the oil will come out with more pressure and keep on pouring fresh oil in the reservoir, in this process atleast consume 3 litres and stop switch off the car .... pack things up Once every thing is connected back to where it was start the car with cap open of the oil reservoir, the oil will jump may be flow out let it do check the oil level and turn the steering end to end lets say you will do this exercise for 5 to 10 mins and done.. you are good to go While turning your steering make sure you lift the car from the jacks, in my garage there was only one jack so the mechanic lifted only one part of the car anyway something is better than nothing.. and now no noise nothing steering is like butter now, i will try to upload some pics You can use any DOT 3 fluid Automatic Transmission Fluid or as Toyota recommends Dex 3
  3. Dear Mogur I personally believe that axles dont go bad this easily, they are built as much strong as they can be It is not wise to jump to a conclusion that the axle has gone bad, are you feeling a sudden jerk every time you are driving the car? it is much better to have a look beneath your car and inspect what is going on, post some pics if possible
  4. I am pretty much sure that by replacing the door gaskets with good quality ones plus with a good craftsman ship to install and fix the gaskets should do the trick .... i might go today to the spare parts shop will keep you posted guys Another potential noise is coming from the tires well that is another issue @Exhaust I honestly dont have any idea how the paint got chipped off and is chipped slightly on all the doors.... however the opening and closing of the doors are as perfect as they can be, well only sad thing i feel is i have to slam the door to get them locked assuming that this is normal since the doors are a bit heavy
  5. Appreciating everybody's response.. hmmm so i should look for fresh door gaskets; moreover my moon roof is not working and is already closed, while cruising at higher speeds driver side door is giving lots of wind noise and one potential quirking is coming from the glove box hinge... As of now i am only worried about wind noise.... whole edge of the door? only paint is ward off not the metal will keep you posted
  6. Pic from inside... sooner i will replace the head unit with a good one
  7. Hi I am experiencing too much sound/ wind noise inside my car when traveling @85MPH even at 60MPH the cabin is not as silent as i would expect from Lexus I noticed that my door seals/rubber gaskets are cut from various locations, could this be a reason? please see the picture What else I can do to make the cabin as silent as possible? Thanks
  8. Hi guys No response from tirerack anyway I am looking forward to these tyres Pirelly- Cinturato P7 All Season Plus.. let me see the local price here; the problem is nobody is even bothered to look what model tyre they are buying here what people usually do, go to tireshop, name the brand, ask the price, ok go ahead and fit Difficult to get performance parts here
  9. When i purchased my '98 LS400 it had two issues 1.) The famous check engine light was on 2.) The engine was vibrating like hell, meaning rev upto 3000 rpm and you could feel whole steering wheel vibrating Now what i did first thing, i took it to a garage drained out all the fluids i could, engine oil (which was turned into water, with 0 viscocity), gear oil (again the same situation), and the radiator coolant (although it was full, but when i drained it was water) all this i changed with good fluids also replaced filters Now when i drive surprisingly all the lights are gone or may be i am lucky, For the vibration problem a good car wash did the trick, good means you lift up the car on the hydraulic bay and spray diesel with full pressure, also open the hood and spray diesel with full pressure, well this method may sound wierd but it did the trick for me now my LS is super smooth, otherwise i was afraid that if the vibration does not go I might have to replace the engine foundation rubber pads For temperature there is a high probability that the water pump is dying since your temp gauge is going above the normal limit, first try to change the coolant with a good one, completely replace dont add up
  10. Update: I went through several threads within forum and other; also went through tirerack website I am looking for super quiet tyres (and of course smooth); my elder brother owns a '99 Nissan Petrol and I remember when he purchased rubber from Michelin the ride became super smooth comparing to previous tyres from Firestone which were very harsh Now problem with Tirerack is it appears I cannot ship to UAE, I have emailed them lets see In the local market here in my place 4 tyres from Michelin will cost me about 460$
  11. Hi I am planning to replace my tires with a good set; old tires will soon expire may be i have 2 more months car specs LS 400 '98 model Tyre & Rim - 225/60 R16 Speed rating V will be more than enough Please suggest a good rubber Budget 500 USD for 4 tires Thanks for pics go here http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/88346-bought-ls-400-98-model/
  12. Pleasure is all mine; i will stick around this forum since i have my own lexus... scared navy pilots hahah well to be honest driving skills of arabs is indeed amazing no doubt, from what i experience here in UAE.... bumper to bumper @100MPH non stop (yes everybody brakes before the radar and come to 85MPH) In the end i am loving my lexus; V8 grunts everybody gives you side; saw a sticker on another lexus "No nitro no turbo simply lexus power" I have so much work balance to do in my car, getting fresh tires is top priority, also planning to change spark plugs and injector cleaning, waxing polishing since there are so many scratches etc ... i better start saving some money
  13. well to be honest; people do get busy that is the only reason why people do not reply but i dont think that wasting time is the right word... time spent on your interest whether or not somebody replies to it is not wasting time; time spent on what you love doing is not wasting time we are here to help if we know the answers we will write, it is not discouraging, because what we are doing here is our passion no matter somebody appreciates it or not we will keep on doing it....
  14. your rear shaft is leaking? did you checked yourself? place a carpet/mat beneath the axle and lie down and take some pics are you experiencing any problems while driving? any irks, jerks etc?
  15. Yeah denny; here if you will come you will see all the LS series are imported from US (except for the new ones ofcourse which are GCC specs); and speeding a big NO, there are radars everywhere maximum you can go on a motorway is 85MPH other wise a flash from the radar will greet you... Well to go 150 MPH you need to go to Saudia Arabia, where normal speed is +100 MPH no radar nothing just zoom Chipped? you mean electronically limited? so the new models are chipped.. thats a pity
  16. cheers to your new car; enjoy the glide
  17. Nice to see some replies ........ well I am in UAE, Abu Dhabi; license plate is of dubai; it was imported from West Verginia; it is miles The car is amazing no doubt, it goes from 80MPH to 100 MPH without thinking
