  1. Changing the ECU?! ..... also Craig this error code is eating up my fuel mileage again  what bothers me more is the sluggish gear shift, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it gives a good amount of jerk, but then again for this jerk i have a feeling that my transmission mounts must have been transformed into solid rocks rather than acting as a shock absorber

  2. Hi everyone

Finally i managed to save some money and went to replace my old tyres with Pirelli P7 225/60 R15 H

    Old tyres removed.jpg

    Pirelli P7- LS 400.jpg

And what a difference! amazing rubber, no tyre noise at all on the road all you can hear is noise from the engine and the outside air noise, great grip at corners

Overall ride quality on a 98 LS 400 amazing, highly recommended

  3. Well i am not seeing much economy gain, it should give atleast 350 Miles in a tank full..... regardless i noticed two big things

1.) Check engine light gone; occasionally it comes on but most of the time after cleaning MAF its gone for good

2.) Smoothness!, gear shift is much smooth and overall acceleration is smooth noticeable difference!

    Next stop oxygen sensor replacement

  4. Hi Angel

    Welcome to the forum

For the fuses you have two boxes one fuse box is under the steering wheel and the second one is under the hood... best is use a crow plier and plug and unplug all the fuses and check accordingly all the fuses just to be sure... if you have even a 1% doubt on any of the fuse just replace

Now power windows and your blinkers not working these are two separate issues, power windows are moved up and down by a motor ... blinkers are not working most probably fuse if fuse are fine then most probably the combination switch is not functioning properly

Check for diagnostic codes also, they help a lot

  5. Hello everyone

I recently encouraged and pushed myself from laziness that i have to clean that MAF sensor although there is nothing wrong in my car except it is giving me now really poor economy

Anyway i started to take it out ... and these were the problems which i faced

1.) I did not knew how to unlock the connector anyway i managed and inserted one flat screwdriver and pushed with the clip pressed and it came out

    WP_20160721_003.jpg

2.) Now the connector being disconnected taking out the MAF unit, there are 4 screws two "+" screws are there and two 10 mm hexagonal screws,

3.) Tools: unfortunately i only had one flat "-" screwdriver with me i managed to unbolt the + screws from MAF sensor, now how to unbolt the hex 10 mm screws? i asked the neighbor and ofcourse with my all time bad luck he had only one big multipurpose wrench, i tried anyhow with that i was able to open one screw but the other one which is near to the air filter wont budge since there is no space due to ABS actuator box sitting there, there is no space to turn the wrench! i gave up put everything back on and went outside to take a break and to buy some tools

4.) I went to store and bought some wrenches, + screwedrivers etc

5.) I came back and started again this time it was easy to take the sensor out, to my surprise its a big sensor with a good amount of engineering being done on the shape of it it is more of a small jet engine inspiration

Now a closer look at the filaments inside the housing

6.) Cleaning: How to do it? i browsed through many forums and videos everyone using a cleaning spray dedicated only for a MAF sensor which i honestly believe is just a marketing strategy to lure people to buy their product eg CRC cleaner etc......... anyway obviously i did not had that spray now what to do...

After some research i found out that the chemical composition of the CRC cleaner was mainly petroleum, and since petrol in the form of spray is a good cleaning agent and it evaporates into the air, similarly i thought i can use alchohol or spirit (methanol) to clean this, i had a deodorant (contains isopropyl, methanol) with me at my home and gave it a go sprayed right into its face

Result was good it cleaned the filaments were looking bright and shine only thing missing was that long nozzle so that you have more reach, if had just had a straw in my home i would have made that long nozzle

I think even if you have spirit which is used for medical purposes (to clean wounds) you can use that also after all purpose is to clean the dirt without water and without damaging those delicate filaments.

I installed the MAF sensor back just some time before, lets see whether it gives me any good result (improving the gas mileage) or not

  6. I was in the same situation the car died, you can refer to my post...

If the starter is not engaging may be it gave up or may be the security system, i seriously doubt that water can reach in that cave where the starter is placed, the biggest problem you are going to face here that every mechanic will say one thing "Replace the starter motor"

Used starter you will get for 200 dhs from sharjah make sure you take the old with you when you are hunting for the used one just to match in case

brand new for ~1350 dhs (from Al Amani spare parts) or ~1250 dhs (from popular auto spare parts)

Good luck and keep us posted

  7. Yeah the double tank issue...... i was also offered the same advice that to replace my whole radiator to double core/double tank... what my mechanic told at the shade tree that the your current radiator is only 24 mm width of the core.... double core it will be increased to 42mm..

Moe did you find any advantage with a big radiator and how much did you paid? does your car have two fans in the front?

  8. It appears that the starter motor is shut off by the car security system... could you please post a picture of the key which you currently have? also you are saying two things at a time, select an option from below

1.) The car is cranking but not firing up

2.) The car is super silent even when you turn the key to ignition

To fix the car security system, simply lock the doors from the button on the key and then unlock the doors, this should probably fix it

  9. Well even i cannot say with full confidence what might be the full options... since these cars came to US only maybe other experts here would tell what includes in the full options/option 1

You changed the music system... hmmm with what make? are you able to make use of the amp already provided?

Auto levelling HID? did LS400 came with HID from the factory? i just wonder... mine is from west virginia and have normal bulbs in the headlight, sun roof, leather seats and massage seats
