  1. Dude, when did you start *BLEEP*ing with me?
  2. all wires are back in place. HU worked without cd changer attached.
  3. You don't like the legend better than the sc? Think I might trade on that one... 95 sc here.
  4. The lex really is a quiet car. I can tell cause I don't got no STEREO!
  5. ...and sorry for all the posts, Nope, I don't think it ever got wet. Tubes are clear and unubstructed, area is dry with no signs of moisture getting in there.
  6. oh, also premium sound system, no NAK
  7. Yo DC, Hey, the radio, and tape worked with and without the cd player attached. It only stopped after I noticed the intermittant connection problem, and switched those wires. Yes, I plugged the wires back into their appropriate spots. And NO DICE.
  8. Well changer is dead for sure. My question though is the amp fried, or the HU fried. Doesn't help me to drop the 6 disc changer in there, if I have no amp or HU.
  9. Does such a thing exist? Would it, could it? And if not, hello, let's design one and retire already. THX
  10. Sounds like a dumb question... But, you know what happens when you assume. Same HU, no problems between sc models? Thanks all audio heads.
  11. dc fish, nice avatar - okay, so radio would power up fine, could listen to radio and tapes, but nothing would happen if you hit the cd button. But in the trunk, the cd player would power up, but wouldn't accept the magazine. Thought it was a minor mechanical problem. Pulled the changer, opened it up, found a leaf and a twig in there, that must have fallen in while the trunk was open. Made some mechanical fixes, a couple of platic pieces that snapped (there was some very low tolerance engineering in there). While pluging and unpluging the cd changer serveral times to test the changer, seems like the wire harnes began to develope an intermittant connection. I would plug in the changer and there would be no power to it (no lights) but if I pulled out the harness just a little bit, the lights would power up. So I opened up the wire harness, an pulled the wires out. I noted all positions, but when putting wires back in, I'm pretty sure I mixed one wire up. Not totally sure, but I think I put the 1 wire in the 14 wire spot. Think the 14 was supposed to be empty. Anyhow, I started the car, and tried to turn on the radio with the above described wire mix up, and the radio would not turn on. I removed the changer, and the radio would still not power up. I checked the fuses, and they were fine, and passing current. Other devices that are on the same circut are working fine (power mirrors). My question then was, are there any other fuses I don't know about. 1 in the engine fuse box, 1 in the kick panel fuse box? Without a clear answer, I pulled the amp, hoping I could test it to see if it is fried, but have been unable to figure out a way to test it. I tried one of the tricks I read abou here, I bridged what I think was the remote amp on to a ground or some such thing, can't quite remember, and got the antenna to go up, but if I unbridged it, the antena would immediately go down. My 3 main questions: 1. fuses 2. head unit fried, how test? 3. amp fried, how test? Sorry for the long windedness, just wanted to tell you all the symptoms, doc. What do you think?
  12. Totally new to RWD, been driving hondas since I had a kick scooter when I was 6. But when the prelude would start to drift, I wouldn't loose power, but in the SC, (i've been pushing it) when it goes, no more power. I know that is cause the back wheels are, well, drifting. Thing is, do you RWD'ers like it? Cause I don't! I always liked the feel of the prelude pulling me through a drift???
  13. Hey, have a factory car phone in my sc, there is no power to it... is there an on/off switch or some such? Could the phone be just plain broken? I'm trying to track down some electrical problems, following this lead. Peaznerp
  14. New to the Lexus world. 95 sc400. Set my alarm an hour early on Sun morning just to make some time to wash this bad boy. Oh it looked good (rained today). Q though: the lex feels heavy to me. My 86 prelude with ~ 120 hp was way quicker than the lex. Is the lex heavy or light? Second, I don't have a button to defeat the traction control system, nor do I have a fuse in the engine box, where the traction system should be. This car has the gold badges... do I have the traction system? I can not get this car to go out on me. I've hit a few corners fairly hard, and this car is like glue. I've got fatty racing tires on there, and I'm in the SoCal rain right now, but I can't get it to drift at all. Just felt it think about going, but it gripped. But in this rain, with SoCal crazies zooming around me, I love the feel of the car: stiff, smooth, and solid.
  15. Yo Robotron - Willing to sell your stock amp if you upgrade? I'd like to buy it if it is still functioning. SC4mil - is there no way to just drop an HU in there (including wire harness and face plate, but not replacing amp/speakers/sub)? Not for performance audio, but to get a system back to stock sound quality? Thanks all
  16. Black 86 honda prelude si. Odometer stopped running at 186k, prob put another 30 - 40 k on it. Absolutely love that car. Still have it sitting in my garage. Quicker than my current 95 sc400, doesn't handle as well, but I loved the drift, and I might even consider myself to have mastered it. The "fun driving" car. Before that 83 Honda CRX, fun little gocart.
  17. So Surge, your diagnosis is that the HU is fried, and the amp is alright? If that is the case, I was under the impression that there wasn't an aftermarket mounting kit that fit the SC, all other models of lex but not the SC pre, like, '96(doesn't make sense to me...). If there is a kit does it look good? Beyond that... I'm strapped for cash right now, could I drop an after market hu into the aftermarket mounting kit, and just wire that into my stock amp with stock speakers. I know that isn't really the audiophile way to go, but will it sound at least as good as the old stereo (which wasn't that good)? Thanks man!
  18. sounds like it... Hate to hijack, BUT, Surge, how can I test if my stock 95 sc400 amp is blown? Have it out of the car, just waiting for diagnosis. Thanks
