  1. my moms old 1987 MB 300E had something similar in I think it was 1995, I remember because I had just got my license and the stupid car died on me a few times. it was a part called the "fuel distributor", dunno if lexus has something similar, but if it does, maybe check that part?!? it would just die randomly, especially after getting off the highway. Has to be a fuel sender problem or a computer problem
  2. I used to use 0w40 mobil1 delvac in my old TDI's engine and redline MTL in the transmission, it made a hell of a difference, especially on cold starts. Exactly how much amsoil will I need to completely redo the power steering? the differential takes 1L of gear oil right? the transmission and torque converter together take 10 quarts?or?!? exactly how much in each?
  3. hey guys, I got my dad the car. Question, has anyone done a full/power flush of the transmission in a 2001-2003 (5 spd automatic) GS430 (torque converter and all) and used just amsoil ATF in it after? I dont need to be flammed about using only toyota fluids, etc. does it work ok and shift better or have you had problems? I got a 2002 GS430 here with 38,000km! how about in the power steering, anyone using just amsoil in there? any issues? runs better or? any synth gear oil will work in the differential right? I am going to use mobil1 5w30 in the engine for now (maybe a blend of 0w30 and 5w30 until the weather warms up)
  4. I got the car, and am going to give mobil1 5w30 a shot. maybe try amsoil after (mobil1 5w30 works great in my 4 stroke snow blower!) you guys use the toyota or mobil1 filters?
  5. Ya wanna know what UPS, Coca cola, and Fedex use for their oill? Well, here ya go, lets see you put that in your car <_< http://www.deq.state.mi.us/documents/deq-e...pp-rerefoil.pdf ← That link didn't open for me, but it sounds like UPS, Coca cola, and Fedex use re-refined oil which just proves my point they don't use any specialty lubeshark products because their fleet mechanics know engine wear is almost undetectable if any ordinary API SL motor oil is used and filters, engine tune ups and cooling system service is performed on time And re-refined oil meets API SL specs. ← I will pass on the XR4 oil changes...,
  6. anyoen hre try using royal pruple in thier lexus yet?
  7. toyota is sick, same fluid for the brakes, power steering, and transmission. thats awesome. i wish toyota had full synth fluids though, less wear and much better, especially when its cold out (if any of you live in south eastern ontario or the mid-west/easterm US, you know what I am taking about) If I get the car, I am going to give mobil1 a try. (worked wonders in my 4 stroke snowblower, no more black smoke) for the brakes, I am going to use the toyota stuff. am not messing with the breaks. Power steering I will probably change too, again toyota fluid. Has anyone used amsoil in there? differential is getting mobil1 or royal purple gear oil. I was going to do a full transmission flush, torque converter and all. I was going to mix the toyota fluid with amsoil. But if Amsoil will work 100% on its own, I may just use that. has anyone here done a full flush and used just amsoil (no toyota fluid) in both the torque converter and the transmission without any problems?
  8. I would personally use a supercharger, with a stage II pulley. Since your car is automatic, the constant power from a supercharger maybe better then that of a turbo. Have you ever driven an automatic turbocharged car? once it feels like shifting, your rpms/boost drop and its horrible. power drops like a rock. mind you yours is a v8 so it should not be that bad. still a SC is less work to install, even though it may cost more. your car may need twin turbos unless your somehow going to get one to work with both cylinder banks.
  9. you guys have used amsoil in your transmission/torque converter without problems? Can I use just amsoil or do I have to mix it with the Type T fluid?
  10. hey all, if I get myself a 2002 GS430, what oil should I use in there? will mobil1 work? or will I have problems with it? (won't leak out of seals, etc) what about using 0w30 in the winter and 5w30/10w30 in the summer? Also, on the transmission - its toyota type-T fluid right? can I mix in some amsoil or?
  11. no cars are perfect, but lexus seems to come as close to it as possible. he has a point, new cars in thier first year, even japanese cars, will usually have issues. some just more then others.
  12. thanks guys. my '04 rx330 has been bullet proof thus far. gs430 looks like my dads best bet. he needs a trunk, which the rx does not have. (real estate agent) the GS itself is less prone to messing up, unlike Mercedes.....
  13. hey guys, I got an rx330, and I love it. My dads benz died (transmission finally went BOOM!). I am checking the local auctions with my buddy looking for a new car for him. A lexus gs430 looks sweet. From what I have read, it does not burn much mroe gas then the v6 and is not underpowered. What should I look for/avoid when getting one of these cars? phil
  14. RX330 is nicer insider then the FX45 and the ML350,
  15. Would mixing some Amsoil synth tranny fluid with the Toyota fluid be a good idea?
  16. If they had a good diesel engine model, I would have bought it. Damn lexus. If my tranny acts up with amsoil, ill drain it out and put in Toyota type-T and take it to them, how the hell will they know what was in there before?
  17. Ok thank you, I am going with the Mobil1 truck and Suv 5w40. My transmission seems to be fine for the moment, from what I have heard the transmission problems you guys talk about here seem to be far and few between. I may still try changing the fluid to Amsoil, but from what I have read here. If it aint broken, don't fix it. Hopefully I will not have similar problems; the fluid is fine in mine after 24,000km. I like my RX330, The Mercedes I had was softer and handelled better, but this SUV is not too bad. As long as I do not have retarded problems like I had with my 320, and this one is a 4x4 for the Snow! It is just too bad that Toyota/Lexus does not have a Turbo Diesel variant, one of those common-rail I6s with a variable geometry turbo; it would be good to go. One of those 350ft pound @ 1800 rpm torque monsters in an SUV with Toyota engineering, it would be great!
  18. hi all, well i ended up getting a 2004 RX330 with 24,000km for $37,000 canadian via my buddy from an Auction. It was a company car, but figuring that the same model new from Lexus with the lux pacakge, block heater, and sunroof (which mine has) would have been $59,000, I think it was a good deal, its basically new! No accidents, etc - we basically took the car apart and used a mag glass to check for this stuff - if it had accidents (unreported) my buddy would have resold it to some schmitz. I also check the millage, it appears to have not been turned back, thats another reason I kept it. 1) I went to buy a case of Mobil1 "truck and Suv" (5w40) and a fram filter for it. No problems using this oil or this filter in this car right? I have no idea whats in there now, but the oil is not black, however I am worried that someone dumped like XR4 (recyl. oil) in there before they tossed it on the auction block, so I am going to change it. If Mobil1 truck and Suv are no good, what should I use? 2) I posted before about using Amsoil Synth ATF in the tranny, it meets the Toyota specs. MY fluid is fine, but I am going to change the filter and fluid in it anyways. Apparently in hard working trannys that get abused (I know how I drive sometimes), this stuff is good. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with Amsoil in it? ASLO is there a flash/upgrade that lexus can do to my car if it has gearing problems? 3) coolent - Use the Toyota stuff? or? How about tossing in some Royal purple purple Ice in there to keep the engine cool? Good or Bad idea? Im gona flush the system and put in new coolent. 4) Brake fluid - Use the Toyota stuff or? 5) Anything else I should know/do with this car before I start driving it daily and hard? 6) lexus warrenty - As the second owner, I still have warrenty coverage as long as the previous owners did the maintinance there which I think they did, right?
  19. Hey all, I have what is rapidly becoming a bewitched 1995 Mercedes E320. After 270,000km everything started going wrong with this car! I wanted to get an AWD vehicle, after the stupid problems that I have had with Mercedes, I do not want anymore. I was thinking of getting a 2004/2005 Lexus RX330. I was looking over this forum, apparently the RX300 had some issues (transmissions going BOOM! being one of them). I have had enough stupid things go wrong with my car (it has Lucas heavy oil stabilizer in the engine and Lucas Auto transmission fix in the transmission to keep it alive!) If I buy the Lexus, I do not want to go through that again. How have people’s experience been with the RX330? Not stupid problems or? AWD Transmissions ok? Is everyone happy with them? If I get one, anything I should do? Maybe change the oil/fluids to Amsoil synthetics or?
