  1. Thanks for the info...I didn't notice it until the mechanic pointed it out to me. I only had the car a week or so before I had the belt replaced so drove it very little.
  2. Just finished getting my timing belt changed out on my '99 LS and the mechanic said my idle is a bit erratic. I didn't notice this until he mentioned it. The mechanic said I need a new idle motor control which comes as part of the throttle body. Not sure that is accurate since I have seen the control listed as a separate part on the net. In my searching I also found there is an idle air control which may be the same thing. He cleaned the throttle body and tried to clean the motor control to get it to work properly but the cleaning didn't work. The idle is somewhat erratic and mostly I notice that the RPM's don't drop as fast as they should when I let off the gas. almost as if I was in cruise mode. The RPM's drop of course when I put on the brake. For me, this problem doesn't rank up there with war, pestilence and famine, but I would like to start gathering some info so I know what to do and/or look out for when gathering parts. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  4. I'm getting my '99 LS400 serviced today and whil my wife was following me to the shop, she noticed brown smoke out the tailpipes ar idle but disappeared when accelerating. I've seen white smoke and blue smoke but never brown. Any ideas of what this might be? My scanner is throwing the codes for the cats being below efficiency but I don't know if that might be linked to the brown smoke. The car has 145K on it. Thanks for any thoughts.
  5. My problem is that the tilt works flawlessly but the telescope does not move in or out. I can't hear any noise when I push the button for the telescope. Guess I will have to get in therre to see what I can see. If anyone has any insight that might help I would like to hear it. Thanks much!
  6. The instructions I used were from keymam.com and you can find them on the net. Don't know if you can program the remote without a working original. Probably any of the vendors on the net can answer that. Hope that helps.
  7. My, new to me, '99 LS400 has 144K on it and I don't see any record of a tming belt change on the carfax. Is it possible that it has been changed and that Lexus has a record or it? And if so, how would I go about finding out? Thanks for any info!
  8. I have recently purchased a '99 LS and want to know how I can determine what kind of suspension I have.
