  1. Hey, thanks for the info guys. I figured it out using Windows media player and it is a WMA file required. The conversion was a little tricky by trial and error but I burned another CD and it works in the LS400 great.
  2. So I purchased some tunes on itunes, put them on a CD and it plays in my computer. It won't however play in my '99 LS400 with the Pioneer system. It plays store bought CD's fine but not my home made CD. Any ideas why this happens?
  3. Hopefully this picture will loadClick on the image if it isn't showing the whole radios.
  4. Yes, both of the units are Nakamichi. As soon as I figure out how to post the photo I wll. Thanks for the help.
  5. Here's the pic I took of the new radio on the left and my old radio on the right. I'll have to pull the old radio this weekend to check the part number. The part number you posted is the same as on the new radio.
  6. I should have mentioned that the new radio was reported to be out of a 98-00 Lexus. So it is identical looking to the Nakamichi I now have in my 99 LS400. It is not an aftermarket radio. thanks for the reply.
  7. I purchased a replacement radio and when I pulled my old radio out I noticed that on my radio there were two wiring plugs, one white and one gray. On the new radio there are three plugs, one white, one gray and one blue. the white and gray plugs on the new radio are the same as the old radio. When I hooked up the new radio there was power and display but no sound. The plugs on the new and old radio are in different places. I'm thinking I'm missing something here. I don't think there is any way I can determine if this was out of an LS or GS or other model. On the face, the new radio is identical to the old radio. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
  8. I kind of figured that might be my option. I have had the center vent out previously and of course the two black plastic pieces that are necessary to be able to rotate the vents fell down into the tunnel. They dropped so fast I didn't even see them so I didn't know what I was looking for but eventually discovered them and super glued them back onto the vent. Thanks for the tips on removing the head unit, much appreciated.
  9. I recently acquired a used Nakamichi radio out of a 99 LS that was advertised to be in working order including the LCD display. Is there a way to bench test the unit without having to install it into my "99 LS? Thanks for any info!
  10. Thanks much for the kind and very informative responses.
  11. Well, at the risk of getting flamed again what and where are SRB tutorials?
  12. Hello...is replacing the strut rod bushings a DIY job? Do I have to take them somewhere to have them pressed in or can I do this with a vise? Any alignment needed afterwards? Thanks for any info.
  13. I'm assuming the transponder is in the key head and is part of the remote. So if I buy a new key with the shell head attached, I can transfer the old remote to a new key shell and it will work to start the car?
  14. I need to refrurbish or replace the fabric covering the speaker grilles. How do they come off? I tried prying with a screwdriver but they won't budge. Does the whole door panel have to be removed?
  15. The master key on my '99 LS suddenly was unable to start the car. It went into the key hole OK but would not turn to start. I tried the door locks, trunk lock and it would unlock everything and the remote works. So I took a close look at the key and there was a slight curve to the metal lengthwise. I put it in my vise, straightened it and now it works again. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this? very strange.
  16. Well that was almost too easy. I found a plastic cap off of a water bottle was jamming up the works. Also found a dime so that paid for my time. Thanks again for the link.
  17. On my '99 the wood is much lighter than a walnut. I work with exotic wood veneers but can't identify the species. It's an amber color with red overtones. It doesn't appear to have faded except on the small strip between the center vent and the climate control and on top of the steering wheel. All of the wood on the interior still matches in color. Some of wood dash kit manufacturers advertise a factory match but I am sure it won't be anywhere close to the wood I now have. I wanted to get a couple of pieces out of their kit for the climate and radio to finish off that area but I may well be out of luck on that. I ordered some samples from Remin and will see what I can come up with.
  18. Thanks for that...exactly what I was looking for!
  19. When you're limited to four letter words and above in the search box, words like mug, cup holder, etc. don't seem to have an equivalent. Anyway, the cup holder in my '99 LS will not return into the console and stay there. Anyone know of a way to get into that area of the console so I can see what's going on? Thanks!
  20. Anyone know if the wood species and color are the same for 99 thru 00 LS400?
  21. Shoulda asked this in my first question. The manual calls for an H4 bulb. Is that right? The H4's I use on my other car are for headlights and they have the old style 3-metal prongs for ground, Hi and Low.
  22. Thanks for that great info. The older I get, the less willing I am to force things. Thanks again!
  23. I need to change out the bulbs in my '99 LS fog lamps and the lens doesn't seem to want to come off. I don't want to crack it so does anybody know how the lens comes off? I could see only one screw that holds it on. Thanks for any info.
  24. So I've been wanting to get a kit that matches the wood in my 99 ls400 but none of the kits I see online come even close to the color of the wood in my car. One company offers a dark walnut burl and a lighter color for the platinum edition. How would I know if I have the platinum edition and does anyone know of any vendors that can match the wood in a 99? thanks for any info
