  1. I have had a situation several times where the engine (when idling) would stall when the A/C turned off. It seems it's programmed to up the revs when the A/C starts and then to drop them when the A/C stops. I found that when the refrigerant is low this causes bad behaviour and the drop in revs when the A/C stops can be enough to stall the engine if you happen to be idling at the time. Dont' know if that would be it in your case of course, but worth thinking about. Recharging the A/C fixed it for me.
  2. Oh no, how do I get out of this one?! SC400, 1995. My driver's side door will not unlock. Here are the symptoms: The interior lock button (the piece with the big red blob on it) will not pull outwards ( ie towards me as I'm sitting in the seat). If I try to pull it manually, it moves a quarter-inch or so but then won't move any further. Something is stopping it. If I try to unlock it with the remote, it tries to move a bit but, again, won't go any further. If I try to unlock it with the button on the door armrest, it does the same thing as with the remote. If I try to unlock from the outside using the key, same thing again - something seems to be stopping the key turning far enough to unlock it. Therefore, because it remains stubbornly locked, neither the interior handle nor the exterior handle has any effect and will not open the door - they don't show any resistance, as you indeed would expect when the door is locked. My tech told me it was probably just jammed and if I squirt WD40 at it, through the handle holes, or down from the open window, I might be able to free it. But I tried that and nothing happens. It doesn't feel like it's jammed, it feels more like something is blocking it. But I can hear something clicking near the door mechanism when I try to unlock (in any fashion) - it's just that it only moves a little way (whether manually or electrically), then stops . I'm sure if I could get inside the door I could figure out what's going on but, of course, I can't get inside the door because while it's closed I can't get the interior trim off! Help, can anyone give me a tip how to make some progress on this one?!! Thanks, Howard PS - it occurred to me that there may be some kind of anti-theft interlock that blocks the unlock lever and perhaps that's what's malfunctioning - does that make any sense and if so how could I disable that?
  3. Common problem. I had it happen three times until I made the link with the carwash. I repaired the trunk unit by replacing the switching power supply transistors (three times - at least it has a consistent failure mode!). If you can't do that yourself, you could get any electronic handyman to do it - once you know what's wrong, it's easy to replace the transistors. I couldn't figure out exactly where the water was coming in because I never "caught it in the act" but I put a sheet of plastic underneath the trunk unit to deflect any possible water intrusion and it's been OK for a couple of years now. Amplifier in trunk probably got wet. Not sure if you have a weatherstrip problem or a leaking sunroof drain. Happened to me. I bought a ised one on ebay and it has worked for 3 or 4 years. It's possible you could try drying it out, and you should definitely find water intrusion site anyway. Good luck.
  4. I had the same problem and I found that drilling drain holes worked OK for a while but eventually they fog up on the inside. You have to be very careful where you drill the holes: note that the lens has a kind of double skin and the condensation accumulates between the two layers. That's where the hole needs to go to. Once I'd drilled the holes I blew air through them with a hairdryer (make a kind of a funnel thing with a drinking straw to blow through the hole). Also, I've never tried it but maybe you could put some dessicant in there to soak up excess moisture It's only a temporary fix though. Put a search out on eBay for replacements.
