  1. BUMP: Code 25 cleared when I pulled the 30amp EFI fuse and CEL did not light upon 1st restart. Idles normally. OPINIONS? ThanksII ! p.s. this is our 1st CEL ever...
  2. Quick question: is this a situation where it w/b SAFE to drive this approximately 200 miles to a "more civilized" location (READ as "one with a Lexus/Toyota Dealership and/or Independant Lexus Service availability") with a CODE #25 "Air/Fuel Ratio Lean Malfunction"? Car displayed Check Engine Light en route to the Beach, drove for approximately 40 miles with no discernable problem. Ran fine. Don't want to exascerbate any problems but would prefer to have work done (if needed) by other than a gereral auto repair shop... Thanks!
  3. FINALLY! Got to the car and in the driver's footwell & located ON the lower dash panel is the ROUND connector/port, with a gray plastic cover. It looks EXACTLY like the (MUCH) more visable one shown for a LS400. CODE #25 with TE1 & E1 bridged with a small paperclip+ ignition to ON = "Air/Fuel Ratio Lean Malfunction" Thanks!
  4. Certainly did the Google SEARCH. Unfortunately the car is in another state right now and I won't be able to look in the footwell(s?) or under the hood (which side?) until I get back there... Just looking for a more definitive local, sorry if I sounded inept or inane.
  5. Thanks, but I do have the trouble codes, pictures of both the rectangular and circular (LS400-type?) connectors, respective TE1 & E1 locations, etc. : what I'm looking for is the physical location. Is it under the dash on the driver's side or is there actually one under the hood as well? I'd guess it is on a page in the SC300-400 service manual for 1993? One source says "under the hood near the driver's side cam cover" and shows a rectangular connector, another shows the round type (with a gray cap) low on a LS400's dash... Thanks!
  6. For some reason I can't find the "SEARCH this FORUM" procedure... Can someone please direct me to the (dreaded?) DIAGNOSTIC PORT location (a picture w/b greatly appreciated ) for a '93 SC400? I know about connecting TE1 & E1 terminals, and that the port is under the steering wheel on a LS400, but where on my SC400? From what I've read disconnecting the battery for a while should/could clear codes (OBD1) and often they go away and don't return, but I'd like to be able to count the flashes if they return. Thanks in advance!
  7. Great suggestion, BTW! Yeah, I bought a COSTCO Magellan unit with free forever mapping updates, AAA links (which included an upgrade on the warranty from 1 yr to 2 yrs!) for $89.95 shipped to my home. Hooked up a smartphone/GPS app and an indicated 20 mph is 10 mph low, @ an indicated 70 it's closer to 84-85 mph actual! I'm still wondering how I can not be throwing codes: there is no indication that the odometer is off (still about 180 miles between our homes) and gas mileage is still in mid 20's depending upon how much of a tank is local vs. primarily freeway speeds. On another forum someone suggested there was a possibility of a "worn speedo motor" actually driving the needle? Could this be some reference to the VSS1 in the dash? I'm stumped, but not likely to get another ticket by being unaware...
  8. 1993 SC400, 95K miles, starts, idles, runs, drives & shifts perfectly (IMHO). Standard sized 225/55-16 tires, no CEL's (check engine light comes on and goes off at starting, as it is supposed to). Speedo consistantly registers 10-15 mph LESS THAN ACTUAL SPEED! I'm advised that with OBD I no CEL = "no stored codes". Dealership wants $120 to hook up to OBD I scanner, but if there is no CEL there wouldn't be any cdes to read, would there? I can purchase an OBD 2/OBD I compliant scanner with accessory plugs for Toyota/LEXUS, Ford, GM, etc. for $199, but what good is that going to do me? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. p.s Does anyone have an accurate RPM to mph chart, assuming 4th gear and normal freeway speeds? This would greatly prevent a repeat of Friday's conversation which began with "I clocked you as going 71 mph (in a 55 zone!) plus or minus 2 mph..." when my speedo was registering between 55 and 60!
  9. Thanks, 1JZPWRD! Back to the drawing board, I guess...
  10. Does anyone know if the R134a A/C compressor from an SC300 will work in a '93 SC400 that currently has R12? I have a chance to pick one up for a very rea$onable price JUST IN CASE... Thanks in advance for your kind consideration!
  11. polarbreeze: Thanks for your reply: obviously the drain holes should go "on the bottom" of the lens (DUH!), but where did you allign them laterally? More than one per side? Penetrate outer layer only? 1/4" deep? Thanks again! You are the only one on three forums to bother to respond... Norm
  12. Anyone had any luck in getting the condensation to stop/out of taillight lenses? Mine look fine, no cracks, damage or otherwise unusual: just beads of water inside on both sides. Is there a fix? Drilling drain holes with a Dremmel? Any hints on how to remove/replace other than "...just have the Dealer put in new one$"?
  13. Passenger side interior door handle assy? You may do pretty well on this site... You may need to grow a couple extra seats to make everyone happy, though! Cheers!
  14. Just received the title to our 1st Lexus, a 1993 SC400, Black (Ebony) over Tan, with approximately 84.5K miles. Had a 75K Dealer service (@80K), new timing belt, serpentine, radiator, KYB suspenders, Michelin P Sport A/S at about the same time. Broken interior passenger door handle is about the only thing I can find to fix: might even try drilling a couple holes for pins and give good ol' JB Weld a try... Looking forward to a couple of decades of luxurious service from this baby! Cheers! p.s. When I can figure out how to post an image on this site I will.
