  1. If the tire is not flat.

Just go down to your nearest Walmart or auto store & purchase a tire repair plug kit

    about $9 - $12 .

All you have to do is pull the nail out of the tire with pliers & insert a plug from the kit while on your RX no need to take the tire off.

    {see directions on kit}

With a razor cut the plug leave about 1/4 " extra add air to recommend tire pressure.

  2. same here, mine popped out quickly and have been living in the basement since. Where in Suffolk Co. are you? Huntington here {97 Black LX usually with 2 dogs hanging out the window}

Thanks you guys are the best !

I had to move them forward a few inches before lifting.

I am from Patchogue & work in Smithtown.

  3. Mine came out pretty easily.

Were does it seem to be stuck?  On the bar itself or somewhere else?

    Hello

The seats fold up & go back down easily so yes it is the bar I am having problems with . What is your last 2 or 3 steps to removing the seats?

Do they lift off or slide off?

    Thanks

  4. I got my GX470 around 8/2004. My dealer comes back last week after the contract was closed for three months. They declared that there is an accounting mistake on the original contract. I have to pay them extra $1400.

As normal, I always try to be a nice person and ask them to draft another correct contract. They refused to make another contract for me and insisted that I have to pay the extra money with ONLY a personal letter from GM of the dealer .

    Any help and advice,

    Thanks,

    HW

    More news about the scam:

    1. GM of the dealer sends me three copies of contracts that included the final one. From the paper, they did double credit my trade-in (total $1400) twice among all those paper works. In another words, they did give me more credit.

    2. I have checked the contracts very carefully with my accountant. We found there are two places that the dealer over charged me when they correct the mistake on the contracts. The over charges are about $550 and $1200. Total amount of over charge is about $1750.

    3. I called back to GM of the dealer and try to make an appointment to get MY money back. He is busy for next a few days.

    HW

Whole deal sounds very shady to me. Several contracts ,over chargers & then they want more money after 3 months. I would ask for a sit down with the owner the hell with the GM. The GM should have been involve after the first screw up.In addition call Lexus costumer support corporate. Third report this to your BBB & your states attorney general. In addition is might be a good idea to let the owner know about your postings on this web sight it will help to persuade him to do the Right Thing

  5. this may help you

iam not sure if it affects the american vehicles but it is for these years of Canadian ones not sure since you didn;t emntion the year.

    Make: LEXUS

    Model: LX470

    Affected Year(s): 1998 1999

    Units Affected: 88

    TC Recall #: 1999071

    Manufacturer:

    Campaign Code:

    Recall Details

On certain vehicles, water could enter the housing of the trailer towing wire harness converter due to inadequate waterproofing performance and improper installation location of the unit. A short circuit could occur which can cause failure of the converter, and, if a trailer is being towed at the time, can also cause failure of the trailer lights. In some cases the converter housing could melt or electrical feedback could blow the fuse, disabling the vehicle's rear lights. Driving without the vehicle tail and/or trailer lights will increase the possibility of a vehicle crash. Correction: A redesigned towing wire harness converter will be installed in a revised location.

1997 LX 450 I am close but as usual no cigar.

  6. I've been offered a job 120 miles away from where I live...I plan on commuting to and from everyday. It's normally an hour and a half drive but in California traffic that becomes a 3 hour drive. My hours would be 8am till 5pm, Monday through Saturday...so I'd have to be up at (the latest) 4:30am to make it to work on time and wouldn't be home till 8pm. I sat down and calculated the cost of commuting and it came out to about $700 a month. My question...is all this worth it for an extra $24k over my current pay? Would you guys go for it?

It will cost you a hell of a lot more than $700 a month 240 round trip miles a day 6 days a week = 5,760 miles a month = 69,120 miles on your car a year just to go to & from work. You would need a new timing belt 1 a year an oil change every 20 days or so. Tires all around at least 1 a year. Plus were & tear on the car extremely high mileage on the car is short time. Also last but not least 3 hours driving time every day 6 days a week.Even at your $700 a month figure you would end up earning about $17 an hour for your 3 hour drive.

Not even close to worth it for me.

How much extra would you earn if you put 18 hours a week over time in your current job?

  7. Gas mileage goes down in the winter with that ethenol they add.

My truck has a bit of a consumption issue also. No smoke at start up or anything but I seem to burn about a quart every 1600-1800 miles. Not what I wanted for a Toyota Truck with only 80k but it seems to be the case. Some seem to do this and some do not.

    Good luck

    Andrew

    Andrew

My truck does smoke at start up but it is white smoke I believe it to be condensation the kind of smoke you see often on cold mornings from many cars.

I see the start up smoke in the warm weather as well. Once the truck warms up the smoke disappears.

  8. post-11053-1102797517_thumb.jpgI went to a Toyota dealer to purchase the Tail light converter for my 97 LX450 figuring it would be cheaper than a Lexus dealer but found out you cannot order just that part. You must order the whole package at a cost of several hundred dollars. The converter itself is a small black unit about 3" long x 1 1/2" wide that is taped on the back passenger cargo wall & has 1 - 6 pin plug to a 4 pin plug in it.

So why than would you have to purchase the whole package when it would only take you about 3 minutes to change this unit with no tools involve?

  9. The trailer wiring harness does connect in the passenger side rear cargo area.  To access it (assuming yours is like mine) you'll need to remove the panel in the cargo area on that side.

To do this, you'll need to remove the aluminum strip closest to you in the cargo area, then GENTLY pull the panel loose from the body.  The panel is held on with plastic clips.  These clips sometimes break, but if you remove the panel gently, you shouldn't have a problem.  The wiring harness comes up from the bottom through a rubber grommet.  Trace the wire from outside, leading in to where it's cliped in.  With mine, it was just a matter of unclipping from the wiring harness.  Hopefully yours is as easy as mine was...

Thanks for the great & easy instructions. Is there an after market wire harness that will plug right in to the set up on the Lexus so all I would have to do is run the wire up into the truck wall & plug it right in

    Thanks Tony

  10. While helping a friend move into a new house I notice the plug to the lights for a trailer only have the tail lights working. The stop light & the turn singles both right & left do not work. It looks to me that the plug has the little metal pins missing to make a connection for the lights that are not working. Is there a quick fix or do I have to replace the plug it self? How do I go about doing so it appears the plug wires goes into the rear wheel well passenger side?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Tony

  11. Yes indeed

I actually put 8 quarts of oil in but could not see where the new oil stop on the dip stick Because the manual said around 7.5 quarts I did not want to overfill.Perhaps I was about a quart short from the get go.

I will pay much better attention the next oil change which I plan on doing every 5000 miles. Any suggestions on how to get better MPG I average 11.75 mpg I installed new spark plugs my tire pressure is at 32 psi all around. My truck going 70 mph the tack reads 2400. Maybe it is that dam 10% additive they put in the gas here in NY.

  12. OK I added 1 quart of oil but notice little change on the dip stick maybe an 1/8" difference.

I will check the oil level again in the morning to see if it reads differently.

I have the larger K& N oil filter on my truck it took 7 quarts of oil to the fill line. I have posted this problem about the wrong oil filter sent to me in the past as the large filter not recommend by K&N. They said it was for the 96 LX 450 but recommend the small oil filter for the 97. Just to make things more complicated after adding the K&N oil & air filter my gas mileage is averaging 11.75 MPG. I was getting 13.4 before I change the air & oil filter & switch to synthetic oil go figure.

  13. Thanks guys for your input. I'm getting old. My eyes are not what they use to be.I recheck my oil level & although it is not down to the Low level on the dip stick it is about 1/2" above it. I will top off tonight.

Is it normal to use that amount of oil for 1700 miles?

I am guessing it will take a quart to a quart & a half to bring it back to the full line.

  14. While driving my 97 LX 450 this past week I notice the low level warning light on my dash board light up for about 30 seconds on two separate occasions {My oil level is good & I use Mobil 1 Truck & SUV synthetic oil 5 - 40 & a K&N oil filter}

Each time it did this it was about 2 miles from when I first started driving it in the morning. I let my truck idle for about 5 minutes before I drive it each morning. Is this a sign of a potential problem or just a malfunction of the computer?

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

    Tony

  15. Interesting possibility the roof racks.

I tighten them up a bit but not the problem area.

I am leaning towards the bug shield & will remove it tomorrow to see if that is the culprit.

If not I am at a loss as to where else it could be coming from.

The problem of the vibration noise turn out to be the bug shield.

  16. Tony,

I have been looking around it is seems like they are going for around $175-$200 on e-bay and they are $437.50 new from the dealership.

How does $150 plus shipping sound?

I would have UPS pack and ship the changer and it would be insured for $450.
