  1. No problems, no leaks. I reused the same spring clamps also. You could put new hose clamps to be sure. I just took the old hose to Autozone to find a similar size. You might experiment with different lengths to find the optimum length, only a few bucks. glenmore 1990 LS400 1991 300CE 2000 C280 I need to replace the reservoir hose on my 1993 LS. This thread is very helpful. Any tips on removing the lower end of the hose? It looks like it's going to be a bear to get at.
  2. Here's the end of the story (for now). The smog tech told me that the car was running rich. When I asked him if new cats would get me passing numbers, he pretty much guaranteed that they would. I bought new cats on Ebay for $250. (for both cats, with flanges). I installed them and the car passed the smog test with flying colors. By the way, I used Eastern Hi-flow cats. They fit perfectly, however, the top most nut was very difficult to tighten due to the body of the cat. You need to use a deep socket on the nut, and there wasn't room to get the socket on squarely. The bite was not the best. I'm not looking forward to ever having to try to remove it. Thanks to everyone who helped me with this, especially 92Lex.
  3. My 1993 LS has 170,200. Still runs like new.
  4. Thank you for your help with this. I will ask the tech if he can run the test on the opposite pipe.
  5. Thanks for trying to help, but in NOVA, a smog test is required for registration. It is a separate inspection altogether than the state inspection. [
  6. lexusemissions.107.pdf Thank you for your help. Here are the results: I have attached them in a pdf file.
  7. Texas, Thanks for your reply. I read your thread, "smog test blues" and it was very helpful. I'm not sure my problem is as simple as yours. My car failed twice at a very reputable shop. It was tested by their best tech. He seemed frustrated that he couldn't get better numbers for me. It is possible though, that he is not aware of the need to put the rpm probe next to the accelerator as your tech did.
  8. 1993 LS. 170K. Main O2 sensors replaced at 140k. Replaced distributor caps and rotors at 150k Here's the readings 15 mph 25 mph HC 215 241 CO% .40 .42 NO 701 675 Rpm 1469 1486 dilution 14.58 14.60 Any help would be appreciated. Chuck
  9. My 1993 LS (160k) consistently reverts to the raised position. I keep it set on normal, but it raises itself when I'm not looking! I can lower it by switching it to the high setting, and then back to low (or normal). I have tried switching the settings, thinking they might be reversed. That didn't work. I tried re-setting my auto seat adjustment, thinking perhaps the ride height was linked to seat adjustment. That didn't work. Has anyone had this problem?
  10. I just replaced my starter the other day. I have a '93 with 160,000 miles. A few months ago, the starter was making a grinding noise when I cranked it. I noticed also that it sounded like something was spinning freely, and winding down when I engaged and then released the starter. Then last Wednesday night, I went to start it and it only clicked. I called Rockville Lexus near my home in Northern Va. They quoted $1155. I asked my mechanic friend about doing the job. He said it was more than he wanted to get into. So I did it myself. The Denso starter cost $156. plus core, and the intake manifold gaskets cost $30. The job took me about 10 hours. Here's a few tips. 1. The plastic is brittle so be careful to handle it gently. 2. You don't need to remove the throttle body from the car. If you remove the two nuts, and two bolts that hold it to the manifold, it will tip back and out of the way. If you do this you won't have to disconnect and reconnect the two hoses attached to the underside of the throttle body. 3. Remove the top half of the manifold from the bottom half. This will allow you better access to the fuel rails and injectors. Also, it allows you to remove the two bolts that hold a wire harness which runs between the two halves. You will need to remove these two bolts in order to free the bottom half of the manifold. 4. Remove the gas tank cap prior to opening the gas lines, otherwise the pressure will cause the gas to flow out continuously. 5. You will need a torx driver to remove the manifold. Get one that fits your ratchet wrench. 6. I didn't remove the water bypass pipe. Instead, I used a ratchet wrench (14mm socket) on one starter bolt, and a box end wrench on the other bolt, and slipped my hand down along the firewall to get onto them. The bolts broke free easily, and I got my son (who has a smaller hand) to reach down and back them out. 7. A magnet tool will come in handy on this job. 8. You will need some silicone gasket sealant for the throttle body re-install. This was a big job, but I'd do it again if I had to. I can get a lot of chrome for my V-rod with $1200.!

  16. I am looking to buy a set of stock wheels from an LS430, (prefer chrome, year '03, '04, or '05). If you have replaced your wheels on your 430 and want to sell your stock wheels and tires, let me know.
  17. I got an email from Arnott Industries (www.arnottindustries.com) this a.m. indicating that they will have remanufactured air struts available for Lexus in a few weeks. They are now in the final stages of testing them. I had inquired of them about availability, but prior to hearing back, I had to buy a strut so I took my chances with a used strut. Cost will be around $350. Hope this info. is helpful to some of you who want to keep air suspension, but can't justify the cost of new parts.
  18. My '93 LS got T-boned. Damage is limited to the front left wheel area. Insurance lists book value at only $4800. so they may total it. I plan to repair the car and will probably have to take some money from my own pocket to do it. The car is worth much more than that to me as the body, int., and drive train are in perfect condition. One of the things that jacked up the repair cost is the $1000. pneumatic shock. Does anyone know where I might get a used one in good shape? What do I look for when evaluating the condition of a used one? Thanks for the help.
  19. I have a'93 LS400 w/ 150k. Parts man, Anthony, at Pohanka Lexus in Northern VA told me that Lexus no longer recommends replacement of the fuel filter. He said they stock the part only for collision purposes. Has anyone else heard ever this?
