  1. I'm confused. I am thinking of getting a new head unit for my '98 ES. http://www.goodguys.com/adtemplate.asp?inv...64&catky=207135 to be exact. if i just replace my head unit, will my stereo sound worse because of an inadequate amp? anyone know what the power specs are that narrows down what head units i can pick? i just want an mp3 player in my car really. right now i have my portable cd/mp3 player plugged into my cassette player via adapter. the wires going along the shift looks retarded to me right now, they run into my center console, hehe. any help would be great including opinions on sony head units. my friends have an eclipse or pioneer head unit. but i like how that sony hu looks.
  2. i don't think this is necessarily a problem. doesn't this happen with all cars? it's just that the seal at the bottom of the rolled up window is wet. and when you roll it down you are basically rolling the wet seal on the dry window. and when you roll it back up.. your window is wet. after a car wash you should just wait till it dries up.
  3. Hi, I have a 98, and was at a gas station trying to clean my windshield, but i couldn't raise my right side windshield wiper. the wiper is tucked under the hood so i can't lift them to clean the window. anyone know how to raise it? or is it just not possible? I tried to yank it, but it doesn't look like it would move. thanks!
  4. on my 98 lexus i remove the rubber cover, then there is a wire-like locking mechanism. after you unlock the bulb, the bulb can be pulled out and the wires are attached to it. simply pull the wires off of the bulb's plugs. make sure you dont' touch the glass portion of the bulbs. this is for the 98 lexus, i'm not sure what the other ones look like, but this was the same for my 2000 volvo s40, so i'm guessing it's pretty standard for all vehicles.
  5. Hi had a similar problem when i got my lexus with 43k miles. i think the most common problem is the gas cap for this light. try to take off the gas cap and leave it off for about 30 seconds, then put it on and tighten it till you hear about 3-4 clicks. after about 3 hours, the light should go off if this was the problem. In my case, i took it to a dealer (autozone does not check codes for free in southern california, i tried :() and they said it would cost 100 bucks just to check what the problem is. then it turns out i needed a new charcoal canister. i don't know exactyl what that part does, but it costs 300 bucks. luckily it was still under warranty. anyway, i think you should try the gas cap first, then take it to a dealer. just like steviej said. :) hope it's not a big problem!
  6. I use 91 octane... but the stop and go is not constant. during the "go", i go about 70-75 mph for about 30 miles. Other than that, it's local streets, you know.. stop signs, traffic lights, or just other cars. i hope my mileage lasts! hehe.
  7. AH SO!!! Thanks all! Now i can blind everyone one in front of me. hehe. j/k.
  8. I get 250 miles when the needle reaches half a tank too! I recently got a used 98 es300 and i guess they tuned it up for me at the lexus dealer. I drive mostly on the freeway, but in California, there's lots of traffic, so i'm also stuck in stop and go traffic and still get that kind of mileage. Just wanted to back up akiraxtc's mpg! Anyone out there that gets bad mpg, should definately get a tune up.. it's worth it!
  9. Hi all, I have a 98 ES300 and noticed under my bumper i have what looks like 2 lights. i'm assuming they are the fog lights. how do i turn them on? anyone know? Thanks. for any info! I don't have a user manual so i can't look it up...
  10. HAHAHAH.. you guys are funny.. but also helpful! running the fan on high with hot temperature seemed to do the trick! :D
  11. So i was wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix this problem. I have a 98 es300 and whenever i put on the AC or turn on the fan with air getting let in from outside, the air from the "vents" smells like urine. If I have the air circulate within the car, then the smell is not bad. Is my nose just playing psychological games or do i need to check some sort of filter somewhere? anyone know? please help, i'm about to die of suffocation soon cause i have 2 hour commutes everyday! and summer is about to start!
  12. hey steviej, thanks a lot for all your advise. i took it too the dealer and he took off my gas cap, said it would reset if i leave it off for about 15-20 seconds after about 3 hours. and it did. i think that was it.. although, they ran checks and said it was the charcoal canister that was leaking gas? that would have cost me 470 bucks, but i decided not to change it. long story, but basically, i think the guy at the dealer was *BLEEP*ed at me for going over his head. He first said he can only check it for 100 bucks, so i passed. then i spoke to my salesman, and he talked to the service dude to check the light for free. but anyway, the check engine light is off and i'm happy. :).. thanks again! and i'm still looking for the sunglass holder.. i think i have to order it cause i don't think it's a part that they have lying around..hehehe..
  13. Thanks! I'll try it since i have to go back to the dealer... my check engine light just went on and i just got the car last weekend. Hey, this is off the topic, but i had this problem with my volvo before this lexus. is it because I switched my headlights that the check engine light can go on? or is it because i'm turning the key too long? lexus' start so smooth, i can't hear if it started the engine or not. Thanks again!
