  1. I have been a loyal customer of LEXUS(3 new cars thus far) since 2001. It is amazing to me how they can allow for their reputation to be tarnished by such an ambience trouble. I started buying their cars due to their quality and quietness. This 460 issue is by far the biggest deal breaker they have created for me. I am on my 16th month in this 460L & am already starting to consider taking my business elsewhere on my next purchase. I applaud those of you willing to make the fix yourselves. For me, I refuse to go down that path on such a high priced vehicle. SHAME ON YOU LEXUS!
  2. My 430 didn't have the lousy wind noise trbl. The heated steering wheel on the 460 is a definite plus for my area. Power trunk operation is nice. Headlight washers are cool. I found the NAV on the 460 to be more accurate for my area than the 430 was(maybe it is just a revision of the 430 NAV program). I miss the moving air vents that my 430 had. I definetly like the exterior styling more than the 430. Much better paint finish than the 430. FASTER.
  3. The article said it was a sedan and it looked like it in the TV footage. Now I have to have second thoughts about not worrying about driving my LS off a 100 foot cliff. The thrill is gone. :( John
  4. Saw this on the local evening news. On the TV video you could see the LEXUS emblem but not very apparent on the internet video. Amazingly, perhaps due to the structural integrity and amount of air bags in the vehicle, nobody died. :) http://video.aol.com/video-detail/car-plun...alif/2309382138 5 Hurt As Car Plunges Off Cliff Near Devil's Slide (CBS 5 / BCN) ― A crash that injured five people and sent a vehicle off a cliff in San Mateo County Sunday morning shut down state Highway 1 for about five hours, the California Highway Patrol said. The collision involving two vehicles was reported at about 2:25 a.m. just south of Pacifica near Devil's Slide, CHP Officer Aaron Quistad said. One victim sustained major injuries and four more received minor injuries in the accident, which forced one vehicle off the narrow Pacific Coast Highway, falling more than 150 feet down a sea cliff, Quistad said. Emergency crews transported the victims to San Francisco General Hospital and officers arrested one person on drunk driving charges after determining that alcohol played a part in the crash. John
  5. If it's a lease you better be sure to get documentation so you have a record of the incident when it comes time to return the car at end of lease term. If it was a straight buy, it will probably show up on CARFAX report & may or not matter depending on how long you plan on keeping the car. John
  6. My love for always having a new car is not very economically smart by most peoples spending standards but I never go beyond a 3 or 4 year factory warranty period. It depends on what the next redesigned model looks like and how it's initial years performance ratings are. As I stated previously, I have a long standing relationship with the same dealership. I have just established an agreement with the service director that my scheduled maintenance appointments are ALWAYS worked on by their top trained senior tech. It is a luxury that could probably only come from years of loyalty to the same dealership and without question a high cost. Definetly not a level of attention to service available when shopping for the lowest price on auto repairs. I can't imagine driving a vehicle for up to 100K miles but given the hourly rate dealerships charge it does become cost prohibitive as the vehicle's age increases and it's trade in value decreases. John
  7. I can only address your first question with my OWN point of view. I just hit 15K on my 08-460. The dealership charged me a bit over $400 to do all their check list items. I have the LEXUS credit card with many points so the actual out of pocket was almost $150. Regardless of my cost, I do not think twice about taking my car to the dealership for any scheduled maintenance. This is my 3rd LEXUS and I've never taken my cars anywhere else. It has established myself with long standing relationships with this dealership and I know everyone by sight and first name. It has also helped me with getting superior deals on all my cars at trade in time. I purchase these cars with the full knowledge that I will pay a higher charge for maintenance that I could get elsewhere but if it makes me sleep better knowing nobody other than a LEXUS certified tech has touched my car, then that's fine with me. John
  8. 10/5/2008. Took the car back to the dealer. When I made the appointment I also gave notice to the dealership cust svc rep since this was my 2nd attempt to get this fixed. I was told the best rated tech in the country would work on it. The repair explanation was the monitoring system had to be reinitialized. No parts replaced. No tire pressure adjustments made. I have driven the car 120 miles thus far. So far so good. John
  9. For me it's more of a disappointment that this type trbl still exists after years of product line evolution as well as an incompetence level of service from the certified Lexus service dept. John
  10. Well it only took 9 months for the tire pressure alarm to start going off on my 08LS460. It went off just prior to my 10K miles. Took it to the delaer for the normal 10K checkup. I was told the tech adjusted the tire pressure. That didn't make sense since all the tires read within 1 psi difference including the spare. But I went on my way and drove home(more than the 30 miles that it usully takes to set the alarm off after being reset). A few days later and more than 100 miles, the alarm went off again. I haven't scheduled a service appointment yet but since this very same trbl was never fixed on my LS430, i am not expecting it to be fixed on my 460. The dealership even replaced the monitor on my 430 with no perm fix after just 1K miles. John
  11. Your profile shows you located in Medford, NJ. If that's the case, I must recommend you go to LEXUS of Cherry Hill, NJ. I've bought all 3 of my LEXUS cars there and know most of the staff. Check in with Paul Siderio. John
  12. I would sell them on EBAY. Why not sell them here? Just abide by the forum guidelines. I listed my LS430 used wheels on this forum and sold them real quick. My buyer was within 20 miles of my home & we settled on a cash transaction. You never know who may be shopping for what you're selling. Good luck to you. John
  13. Had this trbl on my 04. My first trip to the dealer resulted in reinitializing the system. The 2nd trip resulted in the tech lowering the monitor sensitivity while i waited for a replacement sensor. The 3rd trip was a sensor replacement followed by 7 months of no alarm. My 4th occurrence resulted in my manually resetting the alarm according to the owner's manual which worked until I accrued 30 additional miles, then alarm came back on. I gave up on a fix and traded it in for my 08LS. Good Luck on your fix. John
  14. I was told by one of the dealership's service consultants that a wind noise reduction kit was coming out soon. This was about 3 months ago. When I read your note I remenbered. Next week I'll be going in for warranty service and will look into it. Will let you know. Maybe you can also inquire this from your dealer Walter My 08 does not have the wind noise issue. There's a TSB for both the 07 460 and 460L models: http://www.lambros.net/tsib/2007LS/L-NV009-07.pdf http://www.lambros.net/tsib/2007LS/L-NV010-07.pdf John
  15. I have the 08 model. My previous vehicle was an 04LS430. On the 04 model the exterior trunk release button was easy to feel and locate on the underside of the upper license plate area. On the 08 model the button is in the upper middle of the plate area but it is disguised by a rubber type cover and doesn't have the feel of a button. It is there. You only need to press the pad. There is a very slight delay once you push it but the vehicle will tone then unlock and slowly ascent. Just give it a sec to start. John
