ConSIRvative
I have a '93 SC400 with 170K on it and there has been a noise that has been steadily getting louder over the last 10k. The description of the noise is this: at first it happened at 60 MPH and over. When I let off the gas there is a humming that seems to come from right below the shifter. The sound has increased in volume and the start point speed has decreased to about 55 MPH. there are no symptoms other than the noise, but I'm getting worried. The steps that I have taken to correct it was to take it to a transmission shop who told me it was a differential problem, so I took it to a differential specialist how assured me it was indeed the differential. Well 2 differentials (one w/ 60K mi. & one w/ 23K mi.) later, it ain't the differential. :chairshot: I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what it might be? If I have to rebuild the tranny, I'd just as soon get a replacement car, say a 95 SC with 90K.
jeremyp
Have you ever replaced the transmission mount? If the tranny mount is trashed then it can cause vibration that sounds like noise coming from the shifter. Just replaced mine @ 160k
