jbarhorst2 Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 Group, how easy is it to change the rear shocks on a 1997 SC300? I am a pretty good DIY person. How involved is it? Is it really as easy as unbolt the old and bolt in the new? Does it change the alignment? Tom
bean_8044 Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 As long as you dont have TEMS or some other crazy suspension it should be just bolts. The only hard part is if you dont have a spring compressor to get the spring off of the shock. I think i paid $10 for one at Wal-Mart. Just make sure you have a 1/2" socket or a large breaker bar. Those suspension bolts may have been there for the last seven years and might not want to come off that easy
jzz30 Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 i think TEMS only came in japan with the SC. i remember the toy cressida having TEMS but that is all i dont ever recall TEMS on newer cars.
jbarhorst2 Posted May 18, 2004 Author Posted May 18, 2004 Thanks for the tips. One of my shocks is leaking. That's a pretty clear sign that it needs some attention. Will I have to get an alignment after this, or does this not affect that? Thanks Tom
bean_8044 Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 If its for the rears it shouldnt affect it. Your camber may be off depending on how long it has been like that and wether it was adjusted with the bad shock or not. For peace of mind you may want to get it done. One less thing to do later on
jzz30 Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 well if your getting it alligned then you might as well get all 4 shocks changed. the shocks it self are only like 60 bucks right? so no biggie for 2 more
