Dfallen2015 Posted July 24, 2021 Share Posted July 24, 2021 I have a 1999 Lexus rx3000 FWD. I have 350,000 miles on it....I am one who loves to do work on my car. I replaced the Two piece CV-joint with a one piece from a 97 Toyota Camry. I did all the math and checked everything I could and it was a total match. Except that the built in Balancer was a about 5 inches bigger. I drove it for about 5 thousand miles and I developed a vibration. Not much but at about 30 miles an hour it would start and by 45 it was loud and you could actually feel it in the wheel. I drove like this for a while before I went and got an original axel (passenger side) (two piece). The vibration subsided a bit, but not entirely. I still have it. I have checked everything from Bearings (replaced 10 thousand miles, to the other CV-joint, replaced 15 thousand miles ago. I have determined it could be the tires but have not changed them yet, doing that soon. I know that my Transmission shifts a bit hard, but I recently flushed it, but no change. I also get a vibration when in drive when at a stop light, so I changed all the motor mounts (4) and it may be the torque convertor, but that should not cause the vibration I am feeling during the drive. Bykfixer Posted July 24, 2021 Share Posted July 24, 2021 Check to make sure a wheel weight hasn't fallen off. After swapping the axles to the Camery kind it should have begun happening on the first drive if that was the issue. If you haven't had an alignment in a while it could be your tires have cupped. Dfallen2015 Posted July 24, 2021 Author Share Posted July 24, 2021 Thanks for the reply.....I swapped out the axel with an original Lexus 2 piece yesterday, and the loud vibration went away. So I know that was one problem. However, when I am on the highway I still have a slight noise and Vibration in the front and isolated it on the drivers side. Checked the bearing and Ball joints, but they are all less then a year old. (changed the entire front end including lower control arms and struts. The tires are at the end of their life. I was going to rotate them to see if the noise moves or goes away, but I am bringing it next week for new tires so I will wait and see what that does. I will update as I know and if there is any change. But the Camary shaft was a giant thorn in my side and I would advise against it..... Have your old one rebuilt if needed, or just replace the CV joint part of the shaft do not replace the whole thing... Dfallen2015 Posted July 28, 2021 Author Share Posted July 28, 2021 I am going this week to get new tires, and I am going to have him put the two rims from the front to the back also in case it is a vibration in the rim. It is just a weird vibration, but I agree it could be tires. I did think of that, but the Axle was the first thing I wanted to change due to the difference in the parts.
