VBdenny Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 30 JAN 2015 VIRGINIA BEACH Hey folks, another cold day here in Virginia Beach, the blame being placed dead square on those Canadians. Hope it goes to about -40 where C&F converge for sending us this cold stuff. All that said and done I must say that I have developed a fine Toyota/Lexus following around the hood. Years ago (well maybe a decade or more) I was able to convince my neighbors to ditch their Oldsmobile and purchase a used (previously owned) 2001 Lexus RX300. Guessing it had about 75000 on it at the time. I went with my friend to scope the vehicle and it was obviously garaged. Sorry I can't remember exactly what new vehicle it was that he purchased but I do remember being disappointed it wasn't a Lexus. Maybe a Kia or something? ahh not good at remembering them. They still have it and it works. After that they bought 2 Avalons, 1 Camry, 1 Corolla, and .... Their son (about 25) who had one of the Avalons (still has it) went out and got a new IS350 AWD F-Sport in metallic sliver. His partner also ditched his 2013 big F-150 (decked out) for an identical car in "Blizzard Pearl White" (my favorite color) so now we have a collection. Sold my beloved 1990 LS400 32V 4 Cam V-8 (pearl white) to another neighbor. Still grieves me to see the car because to this day is still the nicest car I've ever owned. I doubt this will surprise anyone here, but losing a car is about the same to me as losing a pet. Oh, did I mention his girlfriend has a 2001 IS300? Oh yeah, and like some of us (not me of course) she is heavy on the throttle. Girls! enough for now. Denny
13IS250C Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 You know your neighbors better than I do. Mine are kind of boring and old. There are no public schools out here so there aren't many young families. There is one house right by the entrance to the neighborhood that always has cool cars. He must be some kind of dealer. Always cool Vettes and stuff. There is one Vette he has out there sometimes that is totally blacked out except the red calipers. So wicked looking. Other than that, boring cars, SUVs and trucks.......except my precious Lexie of course.
VBdenny Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Our neighborhood is unique in that a group of friends all bought on the same block. Around the area our corner is known as "cocktail corner" due to the parties. Not boring here and a bunch of nice cars. There is still a burnout mark on the street from someone who experienced intentional acceleration.
LEX-SV Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Always good to get a report on a car savy neighborhood. I live in a deadend hillside neighborhood of 40 homes and we've got some car buffs here, we have annual block parties and people tend to know each other due to low turnover. Some of my neighbors' favorites include CLS, 911 (996) 912, 2 Vettes, modded 335, modded E350, Mustang GT, M3, S550. Today was my kind of car day, 71 F degrees and sunny. I drove IS with moonroof open into local hills and stopped at a cafe at 2000 foot elevation to enjoy view with 60 mile visibility due to super air quality.
VBdenny Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Your neighborhood sounds interesting. I've lived places where you don't even know your neighbors. In my neighborhood I know about every car as well as most plates. Tomorrow my wife gets in from Boston and neighbors having Super Bowl party with food beer and gambling. How much better can it be? Well I'll tell you. I have a big driveway so I let my neighbor park his 2015 IS350 F Sport on the other side next to my Chevy pickup.
LEX-SV Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 By motor vehicle, there's only one way in and one way out of my neighborhood, so we know what cars reside here. We know all our closest neighbors by name, not just that fake wave at everybody crap. The neighborhood backs up to open space and ranches so we deal with some wildlife nuisances and occasional escaped livestock. We have plenty of street parking because the homes are spread out on lots ranging in size from 1/4 acre to 16 acres each. All the houses have big driveways and 2 to 4 car garages, catering to those that like cars. Some houses even have a extra golf cart garage space, being 1/2 mile from country club, although I guess that could be used for motorcycle, etc. Semi-rural setting but 3 miles from major freeway, kind of unusual. But practical neighborhood for car nuts like us. Note: I only count 5 Toy/Lex products in my hood including my IS.
VBdenny Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 and in California to boot. To me, it is very important to know my neighbors and like you, knowing the cars is a big part of that process. For whatever reason, I do tend to judge people by their vehicles. People with minivans full of crap with smeared windows is disgusting to see, especially those with black brake-dusted front tires. I've got one of the Harley boys next door who rides with a retired Navy group. When the dogs come over there is a racket in the neighborhood and guess what? not ONE complaint from anyone. My kind of place. I'm about a mile from the Interstate and about 10 miles from back roads fun in Carolina. Happy Super Sunday to y'all 1
LEX-SV Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Go Niners, (not that they are a factor today), lol.
LEX-SV Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Put the Lexus back in garage after returning from 90 minutes of tennis with club member half my age, good fun. Did my stretching and exercises, I see score is 14-14, looking forward to Katy Perry in a few minutes.
VBdenny Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 Did my airport run, scooped my wife and watching game. Tomorrow is rain so it's a truck day.
LEX-SV Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Katy Perry was hot, while the Lexus was cooling in garage until next Friday or so, (unless it rains which is forecasted).
VBdenny Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 This will sound terrible but I had never heard of Katy Perry. Life with the Weather Channel really leaves you out of a lot of things. Hey, at least the Patriots beat those redcoats from Seattle.
13IS250C Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 That halftime show was awesome!!!! I would love to see her in person. I was at Bonefish at halftime and they had the sound off. I'll have to google and watch it with sound. I won 3 of my 5 wacky bets. Probably just broke even. All in all.....it was a great game.
LEX-SV Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Thumbs up on Katy Perry and Missy Elliot performances.
