Ls430 Whine Under Hood

Hi

Have an 01 ls430 and it started to make an ugly whine under hood. Took a video...Not sure what is the issue... Could anyone try to diagnose by watching video? Sure would like an idea before bringing it to shop.

sounds like the alternator or waterpump bearings... i would say sounds more like alternator. Have you recently had new belts or had them tightened?

worn bearing on some item on the belt. Remove the belt and turn the pulley on each device. I suspect with that loud a noise you can do the "One of these things is not like the others..." to find out the one with shot bearings.

Failing that get a mechanics stethoscope and probe near the bearing of each device. The bad one will be very obvious.

Don't forget to test the belt tensioner pulley also.
