willkho Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Hi all, I just joined the forum here. Need advice and helps here. I'm thinking to put an android double din head unit to replace the RX330 standard radio/head unit. I'm wondering instead of installing the GPS new antenna that come with the Android head unit, can I actually split the current standard one? Any one know what type of plug the standard one using?I rather make a new harness/adapter rather than cut and rewiring the standard cable. Many thanks in advance. Will
1990LS400 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I would use the GPS antenna that comes with the aftermarket unit. GPS technology has changed dramatically since 2004 with the sensitivity of GPS antennas improving. Looking at the diagrams, I can't tell if the RX330 with the standard radio had the GPS antenna wiring: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-catalog/8604862041-Electrical-RX330-2004.html
willkho Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 Thank you for your reply. I will use the antenna that come with the unit then. Just curious, How the standard sat nav capture the signal without antenna? The standard radio has no GPS but there is a seperate sat nav unit on top of the radio unit. And do you have any idea how/where to mount the new Gps antenna? thanks again
1990LS400 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 GPS antennas are often placed inside and near the top of the dashboard near the center. That is where the antenna for the OEM navigation system in our Prius is located. The installation instructions for your new head unit should provide guidance.
