Lubricating Steering Wheel Motor/gear Rx400H

Dear all,

I have an intermittent sqeaking sound when the steering wheel is shifted towards me.

Specifically when the car is parked for a longer period in the sun, the chances of hearing this sound are bigger. But not always though .....

I got a video clip of the noise; see attached.

I brought the car to the dealer for maintenance (timing belt replacement) and asked them to check for this issue.

As always: the steering wheel worked fine .... :-(

Is it do-able to check this motor/gear myself?

The squeaking sounds like it needs some lubrication.

From an earlier post (Jan-2013) I got feedback that I need to remove the knee airbag. This did not sound like an easy job.

I had the same problem when I owned the 2006 RX400h. The Tech at my local Lexus dealer lubed the steering shaft and that corrected the squeak. My 2006 did not have knee airbags.
