HI EVERYONE!

IM NEW TO DIS FORUMS OBVIOUSLY LOL AND I NEED SOME HELP AND IVE ALWAYS BEEN READING INFORMATION ON DIS FORUMS BUT NEVER MADE AN ACCOUNT.

ANYWAYS I RECENTLY PICKED UP MY 96 LS400 AND MILEAGE HAS ABOUT 156XXX MILES

MY QUESTION IS DAT MY CAR HAS ATE ABOUT 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL SINCE I GOT DA CAR...

WHAT COULD BE MY PROBLEM?

IVE HAD DA CAR FOR ABOUT ALMOST 2 MONTHS..

THERE IS NO NOTICEABLE LEAKS OTHER DEN MY P/S LEAK(I AM STILL WAITING FOR TIME TO FIX IT) AND POSSIBLE REAR MAIN SEAL LEAK.

MY CAR DOES NOT SMOKE BLUEISH NOR WHITE SMOKE OUT OF TAIL PIPES BUT I DID NOTICE DAT IT SMOKES UNDER DA HOOD ON DA PASSENGER EXHAUST MANIFOLD SIDE AS IF SOME TYPE OF OIL WAS BURNING ON EXHAUST SHEILD BUT I KNOW I HAVE AN EXHAUST LEAK TOO ON DA SAME SIDE..

OTHER DEN WHAT I SAID ABOVE, I DONT KNOW WHAT MY PROBLEM COULD BE.....

IVE TRIED LOOKING ONLINE FOR DA PAST COUPLE DAYS BUT HAVE NOT FOUND ANY INFO!

HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!!

When it comes to leaks, it is really hard to say. You may have more than one oil leak but you can fix one at a time to find out. The valve cover gaskets are often the first thing to check and fix because they get hard/brittle over time and do not seal correctly. Sometimes you can just snug down the valve cover bolts and fix it..you might check that first. And, depending upon the severity of the leak, you can absolutely leak a lot from the VC's. There is a lot of sealing surface there.

The first thing you might want to do is to give the engine a bath and clean up the old crud so that you can more clearly see where the leak(s) are coming from...carefully...dont get the electronics all wet (you can put plastic baggies over that stuff). Dats all 4 now.

Very good info!

Thank u for da help so far!

Dis weekend imma do dat for sure.

I kno everywhere else on my motor is dry and pretty clean already besides passenger side lol but I kno valve cover is first thing I will check/clean/tighten and check again.. I jus didn't kno dat VC leaks could get dat bad to where I can lose dat much oil in so little time.. But at least I kno my engine runs fine for as much miles is on it...

But I kno dis is kinda off topic but I do have a few more questions to ask since I don't really wanna look like a noob and keep posting new threads lol but my questions has to do wit o2 sensor, p/s acv, and exhaust leak...

I'll start wit my exhaust leak...

So I kno I have some type of exhaust leak on passenger side part of motor but I've been lookin online and half of da info was making it lean towards da EGR valve being cracked or completely broken.. But wen I accelerate my car would sound like crap as if there was a leak. Wen I'm driving on freeway going a decent speed where I won't have to step on throttle, my car jus purs and sound is not as loud..

2nd question is about da acv..

So I'm trying to remove valve but my wrench can't get in a good spot.. And wen I think I get it in a good spot, I'm already at an angle where I can't even turn my wrench.. If worse comes to worse, do I have to remove either alternator or p/s line??
