Center Console Removal / Shifter Knob

The wood is pealing off from the center console. Im trying to remove that plate from the console. Shifter knob is in the way. How does it come off from a 1993 GS300 ? I see the cover on the back of the knod but did not want to pry on it too hard.

Found a way around the problem, Used a heat gun to remove the wood, then acetone to remove the glue. Spent more time trying to remove the pannel that what it took to clean in the car.

Don't know about 1993, but with my 2005 and 2010, the shift knob just unscrewed from the shift stick.
