Has it been waxed occastionally (i.e. minimum of twice a year) since new? Has it been regularly parked in an industrial area where there are chemical plants? Do you live in a high polution area? The paint on a friend's car started pealing off after parking in an industrial area for several years - in the "west bottoms" of Kansas City.
