99 Gs300 Is Completely Dead, Put The Key In Ignition And Nothing Comes

Recommended Posts

Hey lex fam,

I just had the battery replaced 6 days ago due to the previous battery which I only had for 7 months (bought brand new) was supposedly not the exact correct battery for my car, so about 8 days ago the car was hesitant to start but would eventually start with one try of a key turn, I contacted my lexus mom and pop shop, and he changed it to another interstate battery perfect for the 99 gs3 (so the car guy claims), sorry guys don't know the specs to the T, but after it was replaced the car started perfect with no hesitation. So today I was in and out of my car today, no issues. I get in my car late tonight, make a 2 mile drive to local store, still no problems or symptoms leading me to suspect problems. I come home, park in my spot, get out, lock the car with the key remote, I didn't like the way I parked my car so decided to park again. I unlocked the car with my remote again with no problems, get in the car began to start the car, and the electric panel flashes on and immediately blacks COMPLETELY OUT, and the car is pitch black, NOTHING is turning on, no break lights, nada....I can't even lock the doors by pressing the buttons on the door...so I had to manually lock the car, the remote still works of course, but because the electric is off on my car, the remote is no use, so to get back in I have to manually unlock using the key hole! Can anyone tell me what this could be? I'm soo sick of this battery crap! this is a 99 GS300 with 157k miles...one owner. (well my mom is the original owner, and I have been driving it for 2 years now), hopefully someone can provide some insight on what it could possibly be!

I'm worried this is more then a battery, because even with a dead battery, from what I've experienced the electrical panel still comes on, and I'm still able to lock the car with the key remote, and execute the break lights.

Thanks yall!

First thing you should do is put a trickle charger on the battery for 24 hours and bring it back to life. It's dead. Then when the engine will start, you'll have to do a charging system test. Perhaps the alternator is on the way out. You might also have a small electrical load that is draining the battery when the car is locked and parked.

It's probably just the alternator - have it rebuilt by a reputable auto electric shop - don't get an exchange.

By the way, the "exact fit" battery is for size, not necessarily capacity, and is not related to the failure. The battery doesn't know or care what kind of car it's starting...

Well thankfully the problem was , loose cables!! It appears that when mechanic's new employee didn't tighten a few things after installing the battery it caused my mishap as I originally posted. My my mechanic was pretty embarrassed!, but he is good people so I didn't trip, just happy it didn't cost anything more!
