Son's mechanic Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 My son has a 1996 Lexus SC400 and last week the door jammed shut (locked),the key wont open it and the electroinc lock switch or key fob will not unlock it either. Also at the same time the window will only go down about 3/4 of the way. I am at a loss of how to get it open to take it apart and see what broke. I feel my only options are to cut a hole in the drivers internal door panel or to lay down in the front seat and just start to kick the door from the inside until what looks to be a plastic closing latch breaks. Any ideas? anyone have a diagram of the internals of the door? I took the passenger door apart and understand the locking mechanism (apears to be plastic latch) but without being able to open the drivers door I cant start to figure out what went wrong. Thanks! Steve
scviolence Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 take the door panel lock unlock latch off. it has a 10 mm bolt behind the lil latch which is behind the lil black plate. then pull the actual cable from the latch and the door should pop right open. sounds like u broke the lil plastic lock tab. easy fix u can pick the part up at ur local toyota.
