redcab Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Hi, A family member passed away and her 1999 ES300 is being shipped to me (in California) from New Jersey. Were cars like this, originally sold outside of California, certified as "50 state emissions" or "49 state emissions"? I understand that when the car arrives I can look for a sticker under the hood that will answer my question, but it's already on the truck... If you happen to have a car like this (1999 and originally sold outside of CA) and wouldn't mind, could you look for that sticker and let me know if it's "49 state" or "50 state"? I guess if it's only 49 state I will have to make some mods prior to being allowed to register it. Thanks!!
1990LS400 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I would think it was a "50 state" car since it was "certified Low Emission Vehicle (LEV)": http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1999/1999ESspecs.pdf According to the above website, 1999 was the first model year that the ES300 had that certification.
