you dont need to take it off but its easier because it gives you more space and it keeps you from damaging your $400 radiator

you do need to take it off, otherwilse you will not be able to take out the crankshaft pulley. removing radiator is the easiest part, just make sure the engine is cold:)

I never remove the radiator when replacing timing belt and water. Yeah it will be a lot easier if you remov the radiator. More room to work with.
