susan32 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hi, I can't believe that an ID card (plastic drivers licence) could become lost behind or under the ashtray cover of my Lexus IS 250. It was there one minute and gone the next as my daughter reached to get some chap stick sitting in the unused ashtray. Does anyone know if it can be retrieved from this area? The top of the ashtray sliding cover seems to have a space above and below it, but I just can't get to it. Please give any ideas you might have. Thanks, Susan
1990LS400 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 All the threads on this forum and on Clublexus forum I've found on how to retrieve a card or coin that has fallen behind the ashtray cover say that removing the ashtray requires first removing the console wood and gear shift surround. This thread on Clublexus is on a another topic but others have followed the procedure illustrated in the first 10 photos to remove the ashtray and retrieve a lost object: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-second-generation/501465-dice-electronics-ipod-kit-with-install-pics.html One person who followed the procedure in the photos said it took him about 10 minutes to remove the ashtray, retrieve the lost object and reinstall everything. For someone comfortable with removing interior trim, 10 minutes sounds about right.
TX1911fan Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 It's very easy. Pop off the silver side pieces, remove the shift knob, lift up the middle trim piece and unscrew the ashtray.
