Popping Sound On Driver Door

I have a 2001 LS430. Hear a couple of popping sounds when I open the driver door all the way. Would this be the "check strap" needing replacement. If not, any other suggestions on how to make the popping sound go away. Thanks!

Have you tried lubricating the hinges and check strap? Spray on white grease is very effective and not as messy as conventional wipe on grease.

Yeah, the metal swing control rod is covered in plastic but sometimes the plastic breaks off because someone pushed it too hard making it pop into place whenever door is opened.
