2quik Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I am purchasing an 02 LX 470. What should i look for as weak points ? The previous owner use to own a boat and used this to tow the boat around few times a year. How do i know if tranny is ok? Thanks in advance for any help.
1990LS400 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Have you read the "sticky" at the top of the LX470 forum? -- http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showtopic=5312 The LX470 is a body-on-frame vehicle especially suitable for towing heavy loads -- max towing capacity is 6,500 lb. Specs are here: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/2002/2002LXspecs.pdf And here: http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_library/LX/2002.html Towing a boat of few times are year isn't going to hurt an LX as long as it wasn't the size of the Queen Mary and the LX was properly maintained. Verify the maintenance records and that the transmission and differential were serviced at appropriate intervals.

NicLX470 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Make sure the ride is soft and that the height control works properly. If not it is a very expensive fix and the owner should knock off a few grand. Dealer states an estimated life span of the AHC system to be 10 years or 100k miles. But my 98 with 102k miles is still working perfectly. And you can get the VIN number and if the owner has had it serviced at any Lexus dealer they will have service records.
