Window Tinting

Wonder if someone can share percent or spec that you do when you custom tint your windows... I am in CA, not sure legal spec applied for different states but I did hear stories that cops saying some tints legal in one state but not in another... of course rear can be darker than front. Suggestions are appreciated. Anything I should look out for? How much is it reasonable for a decent job?

BTW my 07 model comes with UL+NAV, does it already come with a bit tinting? I think so, but I like it a bit darker. Great if you can share some pics? thx.

I used Solar Gard 20% (medium shade) HP charcoal series tint on all the windows on my ES (except the windshield of course)....scratch resistant & metalized with a lifetime warranty...other good brands are 3M & Llumar. Get it installed professionally.

It's not too dark day or night (remember it will fade with the sun over time now matter what you do) & I wanted one shade for all windows not different ones for the fronts. I don't do anything to draw attention to myself so cops don't bother me.....and an ES isn't what the cops are really looking for unless you do something really bonehead.

California sure has some odd tint laws -- 70% on the front side windows and anything you want on the rear sides and back window: http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/CA/

I've got Llumar 35% on the sides and back of my 00 LS -- the Kansas limit -- and they don't seem very dark from the inside of the car: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=si&img=815 I sure would like a little darker tint -- maybe 20%.

I'd say go for 20% on the rear side windows and back window and the maximim 70% on the front side windows. I'm usually all for obeying state laws but I'd think about fudging a little and seeing if you get flack from the authorities for 50% or even 35% on the front side windows -- it's easy enough to have the tint steamed off and replaced with something legal if you have to. 70% is so little that it's hardly worth bothering with.
