Need Help. Ls 400 Transmission Slipping.

I picked up a 93 LS400 with 250,000 miles on it knowing that the transmission was slipping. What will cause this. When the car is cold the trans. works fine. Once it gets warmed up it won't move. Car is in excellant shape. It has had routine maintenace. I have been told to change the trans filter and fluid. What do you guys think.
