motoroil
Replacing valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals on my ES, and can't seem to figure out how to put the tube seals in. You can't push em in by hand (unless your superhuman). I tried putting one in as much as you can by hand, and then putting a large socket over of it, and then hammering on the socket--that does get them to slide in some, but it also destroys the seal and tears the rubber. How do you do this?????????? :o Thanks!!
George_Jetson
Use a light coat of oil, or vasiline on the outside of the seal. Then place one of the old seals on top of it, light rap on it with a hammer. Hammer one side, then the other, etc. They take a little time, and a couple beers, but it can be done. motoroil
Thank you for the tip--I'm sure it would work, but decided I'm not going to try it: Alas, I figured out my reason for why it was so difficult. Aftermarket seals = crap Toyota seals = awesome I picked up some Toyota seals to replace the aftermarked ones I had already destroyed while trying to install--the dealer was the only shop that sold them individually. The OEM seals SLIDE RIGHT IN. I used my finger. One finger. Slid right in. AMAZING. :D My new advice, buy these from the dealer for $2.58 each or pay dearly with your time and sanity.
