cu2cool
So I would like to swap out my old radio for my 97 ES300 for a new aftermarket. The lcd is gone, and so has the lights behind the buttons. I am looking at the Pioneer FH-P8000BT or FH-P800BT (any one know what the difference is?). It offers mp3 CD playback, bluetooth handsfree, mp3 player capability, and other stuff. Smitty recommended this double DIN rack to me, http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/576. I would like to take full advantage of what this Pioneer radio has to offer. First of all, I need help with the wiring. I've included pictures (from crutchfiled.com) that shows what comes with the radio. Is there anything else I will need to hook it up to my car's speakers? Anyway to continue using the stock cd changer after I install this aftermarket, or will it be useless? I would like to somehow get the mp3 player cable and A/V cables to feed to the glove box or ashtray so I can plug in any electronic devices I may want to use. Please help me with this project as this thread will be usefull for all of us. Sold Seperately
Lexucan
Looks like a nice headunit. To be honest, most of the aftermarket radios I see these days would look out of place in an ES (just my opinion) but this Pioneer system looks good and would not detract from the look of the OEM center stack. Some cool features too. Have you posted in the Audio/Video/Electronics forum too? Might be an idea. I'll be following this thread with interest. When you do the install, I hope you'll post some DIY tips. Good luck with the project.
saveferris
I'm also looking to replace the factory radio on my 1997 ES300. I was looking at a single DIN unit though. Connecting my iPod is important to me so I've been looking at the Alpine CDA-9884 or CDA-9886. I am thinking about mounting using a double DIN mounting kit like this one. I like the idea of the extra storage underneath the radio. I'm wondering what led you to the double DIN Pioneer? It does look great but was wondering if you've seen a single DIN in an ES300 and didn't like it? I have seen some that just don't look "right" - round peg square peg kinda look. I think the mounting kit and Apline will look OK. I think I'll go ahead and order everything this week and will post some pics of how it turns out. cuz.
IMO I always thought the single din on my lexus es300 94' dash looked dumb and was too much black spacing plastic surrounding it, thats why I filled it with the double DIN DVD player it looks good and takes up enough room. You can find woodgrain dash kit to help dress it up.
cu2cool
I think single DIN would look unattractive as well becuase there will be so much extra space, even with the extra compartment. That's just my opinion though. I have the regular black plastic dash. I just need some help with the wiring if anybody has any experience with this. I found this on ebay, which is supposed to help with hooking up the stereo. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lexus-Es300...Q5fInstallation I still need to find out how to set up the power, mic, and usb cables though. <_< Also now that I realize it, I don't think I need the $40 double DIN kit when I can just keep the DIN mount I have now and get this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=130257865005 Links for the install and manual: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFi...nManual0228.pdf http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFi...nManual0228.pdf
cu2cool
This is on sale at Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...3-348-_-Product Should I go for this instead? No bluetooth functions, USB, remote, and not HD Radio ready. I think it may look better though.
justind89
i was going to get that pioner head unit the op posted. but it was rather hard finding a double-DIN dash kit in australia :( so i'm going to install an alpine ida-x200 in the next few weeks
justind89
also be wary of the cable you posted from autoware on ebay, they are fairly dodgy (been there done that with them)
