There are many good brands out there. I recommend you check out Tirerack.com - they carry many different brands and types and they have a rating table made up of some 10 different criteria like dry and wet traction, ride comfort, noise, etc. that summaries thousands of user ratings. They also perform their own tests on tires. After using many different brands with mixed results, I have found the Kumho brand (Korean) to be high quality tires at very attractive prices. I have used them on my older LS400 and another car with terrific results - long wearing, great traction, smooth and quiet - will go with Kumhos again.
