sirjeff
Hey guys... first of all, I dont own a lexus :) Im an avid auto-x'er with a 2000 civic si. But thats not important. Yesterday evening, my dad took ownership of a brand new sc430. His only want out of everything aftermarket is a set of coilovers, or even just a set of springs to knock the stance down a tad. Ive looked around online and found a set TEIN 'luxory' springs with a nice rate and mild drop, something my dad is looking for. My question is, how do the stock shocks hold up when changing springs around? Keep in mind, this car wont see the track, so adjustablility isnt needed. The springs drop the stance an .8-1.2 inches i believe...... could we put these on without worrying about the stock shocks? What do you guys suggest for this car? - Jeff
southernsc300
im not to sure how the shocks would handle on the sc430, if i were him i would change the whole suspension out. oh also tell your dad to get rid of the run flat tires. sorry im not much help on this topic, hopefully someone else is, all i know is the tires on the sc430 suck. Sadistic
Any shock in any mass manufactured car is going to eventually wear out due to the use of a spring that doesn't allow the shock full movement. Shocks have a target zone of where they move, if they can't make the entire stroke after enough time they will die out. I can't say how long it will happen, and I'm sure the aggressiveness of the drop will alter the time frame. If he doesn't mind replacing shocks after awhile, springs will do just fine. But, I'm with Southern on this one, I also would suggest changing out the shocks along with the springs. I think he might actually enjoy the bennefit of having some Koni/Tokico shocks under him. They can really turn the car into a dream.
