A/c Compressor Replacement

Recommended Posts

Wanted to take the time out to thank everyone for all the great posts..

I have a compressor on a 1992 SC400 that is need of replacing, due to leaking die and not holding freon. It has been retrofitted from R-12 to 134A. I have several questions.

Where can I get a great deal on a new one or reman?

Is it better to buy a new one?

How hard is it to replace?

What else do I need to do or replace while in there?

Do I need to clean anything or pay any particular attention to?

Once replaced, how can I pull a vaccuum on the unit to check for leaks?

Can someone give me step by steps instructions, or lead me to a link that does?

To give an idea on my mechanic skills, I replaced the timing belt, water pump, seals, caps, plugs, etc... myself. I know mechanics, but A/C work is not my favorite... Thanks for all your help! :)
