jes172
I rear-ended an auto at approximately 40 mph. Although there was a lot of front end damage and the car stalled on impact, I was able to restart and remove it from the roadway. After completeing the repairs to the body, replacing the clutch fan bracket and AC compressor, I was unable to get the starter to engage. Only a clicking sound from the starter. To make the long story short, three starters later, the car is displaying the same symptoms and problems. Extensive electrical testing and dialysis have been done finding no apparent promblems. The voltmeter reads 12volts at the starter with minimal drop when the ignition key is turned. Power is reaching the starter, but obviously not enough to engage it. All this work has been preformed at a friends auto-repair shop with input from a small army of assorted expertise. We are all at a loss as to explain or remedy the problem. This auto is a 1996 LS400 with only 112,000 miles.well maintained and maintenanced. Any idea as to the problem and solution would be greatly appreciated. eatingupblacktop
Two things come to mind. Check that the starter is properly grounded. Check the starter relay. Try removing it then plugging it back in.
