Calliegirl Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 So I've been driving my new Lexus for about a month now and have no complaints - love it. But for the past week I've paid close attention to the feel of the engine at push button start up - it shakes a bit. After it's started and I'm driving , no problems. But it shakes a little when I turn it off, but it stops right after that. Now, prior to this purchase I drove an Acura MDX and this never happened. But of course that was a heavier, larger, sitting higher vehicle so it's possible those factors are the reason it never happened with the MDX. But I am wondering if this is normal for the Lexus 350? Should the engine shake a little for this size vehicle?
SW03ES Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Can you describe the shake a little better? Is it a jutter, do you feel it in the seat?

More shake than I'm used to when starting a vehicle. But I don't really feel it too in the seat much. Just a left to right motion seconds after I press the button. Then it stops. I'm likely being just OCD here . But if I know some amount of shake is normal than I can put that to rest.
Calliegirl Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 How long does it shake for? Only 2-3 seconds. Then it runs smooth. Am I just being too critical or paranoid here? go ahead tell me I am I just want to know this falls into the normal category for this car.

I would say it is more normal if it only happens during startup, as in the starter motor causing a little shake to get the engine going. But if it happens during both startup and shut down, ny guess would be that those brief instances when ignition circuit is closing or opening and the engine doesn't have a full current.

Just made my appointment for my "complimentary 30-day service check" on monday and I will have the service tech verify this concern.
SW03ES Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 You might want to ask to drive another ES350, a demo or a loaner and see if it does the same thing...
