Check Engine Dtc 17 - What Is This?

Just purchased a 1992 LS400 with 198,000 miles. The car runs good but after 100 miles I got a check engine light.

It is DTC 17. CMP No. 1

Could someone tell me what this means?

Sounds like a cam position error code.

OK. that would make sense. I just change the timing belt and water pump.

Maybe the timing is off? I checked it several times to make sure.

What do I need to do to fix it?

No. 1 cam position sensor signal. Test the sensor. Should read ~ 950 - 1250 ohms.

Hi: My check engine light just came on. How did you find that code? Mine's a 96 LS400 with 97500 miles, which happens to be one of the checkup dates in the maintenance book - I thought maybe that may have trigger the check engine light. It just came on yesterday.
