I just broke down and bought the ac retrofit kit for my 1990. It has the replacement valves and the flush fluid and a lot of silicone seals. The small ones seem obvious, but the huge ones are stumping me. Do they go in the compressor?

Anyone who knows of the procedure for installing this retrofit kit would be greatly appreciated!

I've installed a couple of these retrofit kits, so if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I wouldn't bother replacing the seals. I didn't replace them when I did the retrofit on my 1992 LS. A family member of mine also did not replace them when he did the conversion on his 1988 Toyota Pickup. The A/C system in both those cars has continued to work fine.

The mechanics I talked to all told me the same thing. The seals in Toyota vehicles are durable enough to be left intact when doing the conversion. If you replace them you may be more likely to create another problem then to solve one.

So should I just return it to dealer? They said I needed it since 134a eats the r-12 rubber seals and the silicone seals are required. I have not opened the package yet BTW.

Toyota vehicles don't have rubber seals. They are polyurethane. I would just leave them. We didn't change them on my LS or the Toyota Pickup and they both have worked fine for quite a while.

Thanks for the info to get them to accept the return! Going to the dealership to return the kit today after work.
