caroftheweek
I just purchased a 2002 ES 300 with 52000 miles on the clock. When does the timing belt need to be replaced? Is it that much cheaper at a Toyota dealer? What replacement brake pads everyone using? Factory still the best? Any issues I should be aware of with this Lexus? I have read about the tranny issues but I have not expirenced any of the symtoms described. Thanks everyone, Ryan

Thanks everyone, Ryan 90k for the timing belt, Do the water pump at the same time, Buy the parts online and have a toyota dealer do the labor. I reccomend OEM factory pads, Although someone is likely to chime in saying any pad will work. That is not advisable. Drain and fill the tranny with toyota type 4 ATF. Welcome to the club Enjoy the ride.........................

caroftheweek
Thanks. I am a stickler for no brake dust so I figured the factory pads would be best. So far I have had the car for a week and have put 1200 miles on it. So far, so good.
Lexusfreak
Welcome to LOC Ryan B) dcfish is bang on with everything.....although I will say you also have the option to go with Amsoil synthetic ATF (which is compatible with Toyota Type IV fluid) for the tranny if you so choose. :) Enjoy! Frankie_B
I use the Hawk HPS pads with Brembo rotors on my 98 ES, and experience no dust/squeeks at all, and braking hard enough for ABS to kick in at 40 mph (did not try full braking at higher speeds).
