monty_mm
Hi guys, i've been searching the forum for a while to see whether i could solve my problem. My problem is that the check engine light came on for some time now. i dont know what the problem is and cannot tell since everything seems to be normal and the car runs perfect. i didnt send it to any repair shop yet to read the codes, i was wondering if anybody could tell me what could be the possible cause(s) since there seems to be no problem with the car. I read somewhere that it could be the fuel cap, i tightened it, removed by batteries to reset the light, and it came on again after a while. everytime i disconnect my batteries, the light would go off for a while and after driving for a while (maybe 15-20 minutes), the light will come on again. anybody any ideas??? would be greatly appreciated. regards, monty
aarman4
Could be anything... Bad Oxygen sensors is a common thing that you possibly wouldn;t notice in the running of your vehicles. I am from canada, so it doesn;t apply, but in the US, I m pretty sure that 'autozone' will check and tell you what your codes are, free of charge, so I would recommend that. Until you know your codes, you will not know what the problem is for sure.
monty_mm
thanks aarman4, at least now i can have a look at least at the wiring to the oxygen sensors to see if everything is ok before taking it anywhere. thanks again. will come back to the forum once i get any codes! Best of luck! The wiring is probably fine though, those sensors have a shorter lifespan than they should.
VRicherson
Autozone or one of the other parts shops will generally check the codes for free.
carterjackson
If you are running regular guess rather than premium that can make the light come on.
